| First couple of days on Adderall, no effect
I was just diagnosed with ADHD (mainly inattentive), and
started yesterday on 20mg of Adderall XR. I've never
taken any ADHD meds before so I was nervous about the
side effects.
The weird thing is that I didn't have ANY side effects.
No jitters, no loss of appetite, nothing. I also didn't
notice a big difference in how I felt. I did notice that
my head was quiet, if that makes sense. Also, I was able
to stick to the Weight Watchers plan all day for the
first time in I don't know how long. But still not able
to concentrate on anything for any length of time.
Does this suggest that I will need a higher dose when I
go back to the dr in a couple of weeks? I tried taking
it yesterday after eating, and took it today on an empty
stomach, no difference either way. I feel like the
Adderall XR has potential, but maybe just the 20mg isn't
cutting it.

It sounds like you're on the right track. The proper way to start a stimulant treatment is to start low and increase the dose in stages. If you're seeing some progress on the 20mg, but feel it's not addressing your primary concerns, by all means, seek an increased dose. Should you hit the ceiling and still not have success, discuss alternative medications with your doctor. We all have slight differences in our personal body chemistries, and as such may find a different effect from meds that vary slightly.
Finding the right dose and medication or combination of medications is a process that can take a good deal of time, but it's well worth the time and effort. I hope your doctor is knowledgeable enough about ADHD to guide you through the process.

I agree with Thunor. If you are getting some benefits, just not enough, the right dose for you might be a little bit higher.
If you can get the benefits without the side effects, great.

First of all, that's awesome that you didn't get any negative side effects! I am prescribed 10mg Adderall IR two times a day, the only thing I experienced was a bit of jitteriness.
Anyway, your ability to follow weight watchers closer is because adderall helps with that "impulsiveness" that those with ADD have. That's what I've heard and experienced anyway. And I understand the "quiet" in your head. It's nice, huh?
Talk to your doctor, he knows better than us! But yeah, you'll probably get bumped up to a higher dose at next visit.

I have found that eating at night really influences how my 25mg adderall XR works- if I eat after 8pm, I get less of an effect. I also have to take it on an empty stomach to feel it. If I eat lunch, it kind of 'kills' the effectiveness of the longer acting beads. So I stick with one meal around 4 or 5 once it wears off.
Adderall is sensitive to the pH in your stomach, so what you take it with can influence how well it's absorbed. I've done a little research, but I'm not quite sure if you're supposed to take it with something acidic or just a glass of water. I always take mine with a coke zero... which is acidic and can reduce the pH. Water, being a pH of 7, will neutralize some of the acid in your stomach and raise the pH number. I'd look around the web a bit or ask your doctor what the best beverage is.
You also might just need to simply bump up the dose!
Hope that helps
