ADHD meds - FAA Private Pilot

You will categorically fail a FAA 3rd class medical or higher if you are taking stimulant meds for ADHD or any other medical purpose. Those of you aspiring for a career in aviation or a private pilots license should be aware that if you fail the medical you are screwed forever.

If you are interested in simply buzzing around the farm - so to speak - your valid drivers license qualifies you for a "sports pilots license" as long as you have NEVER failed an FAA medical. The sports license will allow you to fly very light aircraft, such as the original Piper Cub and the more recent Piper Tomahawk or Cessna 152 around the pasture at altitudes less than 2000 AGL (Above Ground Level).

I visited my old hangout - our local airport - cuz a Beech 18 blow out of there right over my head and its humongous perfectly synced radial engines at full throttlle sounded like Beetoven's unfinished 5th of liquor to my innner most ADHD soul. DAMN. I talked to an ex-airforce jet jockey. He explained to me the "new rules" about the Sports Pilot license implemented in 2004 long after I quit the game.

Don't do ADHD meds if you wanna fly serious airplane - for money or for fun or for business transportation.
