New trend?

Ok, I've been on vyvanse for about 6 months now and within past 2 my hair has been falling out really bad, where it looks like I just cleaned a brush out that hasn't been cleaned in months..

I've been reading post and noticed others are experiencing this also..

Minor evidence that it shows it's related to vyvanse..

My Drs swear vyvanse doesn't do this and I've had so many blood test ran on me to find out why.. And I'm a 29 female , hair loss isn't heriditary in females either

Re: New trend?

I've never been on Vyvanse, but I've been on Ritalin for 6 months (and its generic for 6 months before that), and I've experienced MAJOR hair loss. When I spoke to my Dr about it, he blamed the fact that I'd lost weight (because of the meds) and put it down to malnutrition. Maybe hair loss is associated with ADHD meds, but because of indirect causes like loss of appetite causing malnutrition (which causes hair loss) or increasing anxiety levels (which can also cause hair loss).

Re: New trend?

That's what I was thinking too, but all of my vitamin levels came back amazingly good cause I take vitamins too. Could be the anxiety ? I hope, I'm going to a specialist next week

Re: New trend?

Sadly, most of my hair fell out before I started on the stimulants.

All joking aside though, I've never heard of this as a side effect, though that doesn't mean it's not the case. Very concerning if so, I would search the web to see if others are experiencing the same problem, and make your concerns known to the FDA.

As to doctors, they generally don't know more than the pharmaceutical company literature tells them, I've found them to be a terrible source of drug information. Very often, I know more about various drug combinations and side effects than do my doctors; I've found the best of them are willing to listen to my input regarding treatment, as I have generally done far more research than they have regarding ADHD.

If you're looking for good information on drug effects, seek a psychiatrist that specializes in ADHD treatment. MDs are generally not that well educated, having only general medical knowledge, but are aided by various texts kept on site and the internet. I am, of course, making an assumption about the type of doctor you're working with, so if you're with a psych and not an MD, of course, disregard this advice.
