    Adderall and Xanax

Just curious my dr just prescribed me Adderall 15MG and I know it feels like sort of an upper. I also take Xanax .5 for Anxiety and .075 MG Levothyroxine for thyroid issues. Anyway, my question, does anyone else take Adderall and Xanax together? Doesn't one cancel out the other?

    Re: Adderall and Xanax

I am like a walking (just barely) pharmacy. I have so many health issues it's just awful. Thus, I take a lot of medications. Not a good situation, but necessary.

Everything I am going to tell you is from personal experience. I'm not a doctor. I get my info from drug guides like Davis's.

Adderall is a company name for extended-release mixed amphetamine salts. Yes, basically like speed, a stimulant. It will help keep you alert for up to twelve hours in most cases, and Xanax is a benzodiazepine, which are non-narcotic sedative, muscle relaxers. If you take the Adderall in the morning, and the Xanax at night to help you sleep, it can work. But if you take them together, they don't necessarily cancel each other out, but give you the effects of both. So you might feel a lot better separating them.

You indicated you take the Xanax for anxiety. In that case, the Adderall might make you jittery. You didn't say why you've been prescribed the Adderall, but if it's to sharpen you up, the Xanax may make you either a little drowsy, or just mellow. I use it to sleep. I also use an amphetamine called dextroamphetamine, which is not extended-release, though they last a long time. Have to take them at six in the morning if I don't want to be awake all night. There are other stimulants like dextro, but I find it to be milder.

Your doctor should've explained this. You might want to see a psychiatrist.

Take care. I hope I've helped.
