help - professionally detoxed 3/22/15 opana ER 30 mg

Hi, this is going to be long, but I've got to give you the whole story.

I was on opana ER 40 mg for about 2 yrs, before them 30 mg for 2 yrs. I've been on some kind of pain meds since 2000, started on tramadol, working my way up, percocet 5/325, 7.5/325, 10/325/, roxicodone 15 mg, then the opana ER started.

I had 2 torn discs initially, my PM fixed them using disc biacuplasty, non evasive technique. I have fibromyalgia, 3 foot surgeries, need shoulder replacement, both have had rotator cuff surgery, so I've been thru it.

In Sep 2012 I started having nausea issues, off and on. I didn't see a gastro dr til around jun/jul 2013. I had every test under the sun from then thru dec 2013. Nothing found. He says pain meds are doing it.

In Jan 2014 I got a 2nd opinion, he did ct scan of brain, nothing, he says pain meds.

I'm not believing the pain meds theory, why all of a sudden after all this time? I've also developed terrible GERD and IBS symptoms.

my first gastro dr has washed his hands of me at this point.

So I talk to my pain Dr and he says he's going to take a class so he can prescribe subuxone. So I wait and wait.

Finally in jan 2015 he says I need to see this other guy. So I do, 3/22/15 I stop opana ER COLD TURKEY per addiction specialist. Saturday night the withdrawal starts EARLY. Creepy crawley legs, sweating, I'm like the exorcist! This goes on and on, vomiting diarrhea too.

Monday morning at 9:30 am I have appt with addiction guy, I'm barely able to walk, really. I actually fell out in waiting g room. He checks my eyes confirms I'm in withdrawal and puts half a subutex (he had me get a script filled prior ) under my tongue. so I continue taking these around the 3 day I started having terrible reaction to it.

Rash, flushing, diarrhea, I call the dr he says withdrawal! He thinks it will go away but I feel so weird. Around the 5th day I txted him told him I didn't like the drug didn't want to take it so he gave me taper instructions. That was easy.

However, here I am today, I AM STILL SICK!!! If you are still reading tank you! I still have nausea, Rash too, some flushing. What is it???

    Help???

    Cathy

    Hello Cathy; welcome.

What your pain specialist isn't informing you of is that pain meds can cause nausea with prolonged use.

Please realize that the pain specialist prescribes because they feel that the risks are minimal;compared to the possible rewards (benefit to your quality of living).

If you still experience Rashes, flushing and diarrhea, might I suggest asking either your primary care physician or pain specialist to prescribe something to counteract these symptoms,as they appear to be associated with the medication you are taking.

Please let me know if there are any further questions or concerns.

Re: help - professionally detoxed 3/22/15 opana ER 30 mg

Phoenix! First let me say thank you soooo much for reading and responding to my post.

I think I understand your point but let me reiterate that it wasn't my PM that detoxed me. It was an addiction specialist. But I have emailed my PM dr because we are friends as well sort of asking for his opinion but I haven't gotten a response, it's been plenty of time.

I have zofran and phenergan that my PM prescribed me previously but like last night (up until 4 am) I was terribly nauseous those meds weren't working.

The rash and flushing I have are from the subutex the addiction prescribed, and I made him aware of these side effects, he made no effort in solving these problems .

    Current medications:
    Levoxyl
    Hydrocortisone
    Jardiance
    Topomax
    Propantenol ER
    PREMPRO
one a day vitamins (when I can)

I've been off pain meds now for about 25 days I'm still terribly nauseous and woozy, weak, Rash still here, have lost 30 lbs in 2-3 months. So I'm hitting on some of those side effects you listed. My question is why at this point am I still having nausea? I feel if I could eat nutritional meals I could get stronger.

    Thanks again, Cathy

"Phoenix! First let me say thank you soooo much for reading and responding to my post,"

    You're welcome.

"I have emailed my PM dr because we are friends as well sort of asking for his opinion but I haven't gotten a response, it's been plenty of time."

Don't take t personal, as certain physicians won't get in the middle of another's therapeutic regimen.

"The rash and flushing I have are from the subutex the addiction prescribed, and I made him aware of these side effects, he made no effort in solving these problems "

If he's making no effort to enhancing your quality of living, might I suggest seeing someone who is more attentive to your concerns.

    As the old saying goes:

"If it aint broke, don't fix it...

If it is, then nix it."

My question is why at this point am I still having nausea?

Short answer is because Rome wasn't built in a day....

What took time to build (tolerance) will also take time to deconstruct.

Did any of your prescribing physicians explain that these meds alter your brains chemistry?

If they didn't, please allow me to introduce this fact.

The mind/body connection that develops, can be a daunting task to be undone.

Introduce other medications into the equation can easily cause nausea.

Please speak with your pharmacist and ask if there may be an over the counter solution to the ailment.

You may need something to coat your stomach before taking the meds.

"I feel if I could eat nutritional meals I could get stronger."

A change to a healthier diet is a step in the right direction.

Hi so I'm still nauseous do to the pain meds or withdrawal or both lol? Probably both. I'm taking an liquid antiacid as well. It's so unpredictable, last night I ate 1 scoop of natural vanilla ice cream I had the worst heartburn within 15 min it turned into terrible nausea.
I just can't stray from a BRAT diet. Cathy

Certain drug companies now have otc versions of their prescription antacids.

    Try looking into those.

The pharmacist may help you make a decision that better suits your needs.
