Some questions how to get started, I would really apperciate some help

Hi Everyone,
I've posted a fewtimes, telling my story and feeling inspired but the truth is I haven't done anything to stop taking the oxycontin, I haven't even cut back...I know myself and I know I am the type of person who when I get a good start "under my belt" I might keep the ball rolling..but how, how do you start? WHat do I do? I have a perscription of xanax would be entirely stupid to take that while attempting to taper of the oxy's to help with W/D's should I just throw my pills out What should I do? I am definitly feeling overwhelmed. I hate being a victim. I'm going to a therapist tomorrow at three my first appointment, its for something entirely different ( Eating disorder issues) but should I tell her? HELP ANYONE!!!! Octomon, Thanks so much for your support you have been so constant and great thank-you so much!

check yourself into detox. it will get you the jumpstart that you need. spend some time in rehab and start going to meetings, it will do you a world of good. let me know how it goes and if you need any more help let me/us know.

for scared,

that is great that you are getting to a therapist. i believe you should tell her. it will be a relief i think and a weight off your shoulders. she may be able to really assist in some way or recomend someone.

you need to get out there and do some legwork about addiction and opiate withdrawal and related items. you need to get educated scared. it will have a calming effect on you i promise. instead of being helpless you would be giving yourself bullets to shoot down your addiction problem.

give some thought to a rehab center. you dont have to rush a quick decision. you can get the phonebook out and in the yellow pages look under drug abuse & addiction there you will find many centers for detox and treatment. what you can do is give several a call and ask them to send you information, they should be happy to provide you with this information. i ended up looking in the phonebook to pick out the treatment center where i am at now. i am in a methadone maintenance treatment program. the best idea would be calling and or looking up these centers and their web address. perusing their sites would be a great thing and its free.

when you say i havent stopped or i havent even cutback, that is being out of control. someone who cannot take their medicine repsonsibly. you are only fooling yourself if you think you are going to taper. its simple scared. you make a decision to continue using or decide im stopping this train and getting off now. once you make the decision to stop using then you can do step 1 which is start planning your recovery. you could start by researching detox and treatment centers or doctors who are addiction specialists, anything related to opiate addiction is open to look into. dont limit yourself either. that one small detail could be special. its important not to get frustrated. be patient and in due time thru the work on research you do the answers will come.

PS do not throw the xanax away. continue taking them as prescribed because its an issue when you suddenly cease taking benzodiazipines like xanax. some complications could arise which are potential life threatening in severe cases.

it will happen for you. you dont have to be scared or helpless anymore with a plan for action.

My opinion is Yes! Tell your therapist!!

Or go to a doctor and get some help there.

Why struggle through this yourself, if you
can go and get some help with this?

that is how I look at it anyway.

good luck!!!!!

Thanks...OXycontin SUCKS

You guys are so helpful, and it appears to be annonymous Re-hab is the best choice. Why does that sound so scary, why does the idea of being honest about this, cause so much anxiety. Everyone has their issues, and I truly believe it's through life experiences like this where we have a chance to stregthen ourselves, but the idea of "coming clean" is like OHH my go* " then what? WHat if they take my pills from me, what life never goes back to normal, blah blah blah....but I guess ultimatley it's simple I have to choices continue playing the victim and have no control over my life being a slave to a tiny pink pill, or take control stregthen my soul and get my life back. I have a's so much easier to type than to say Anyway, Thanks for your support you guys, even though I haven't actually done much...I am growing stronger and stronger each day beacuse of the advice I reiceve here!!

Re: Some questions how to get started, I would really apperciate some help

Hey Stick Around....i remember being in the same position as you, scared as heck!!!! Those pills are controlling you now and why let a dam, soul-less pill control your life?!?!? I know that oxy's are hard to kick, i watched one of my best friends try and try to kick them. I would taper down with something like darvocet....or even the small vikes. That is what he had to do. Are you a chewer or snorter??? That does, unfortunately, make it much harder to kick, but it can be done. Rehab is definitely an option and why not just get the ball rolling by telling your therapist???? You will see that being honest right now with her and yourself will get you to where you want to be...pill-free. It is a long and stressful road to recovery but sooooooooo worth it. Those pills fog your dam brain....making it seem virtually impossible to "make it thru a day" with out them. Rehab seems so scary to you right now, cuz your addiction knows it is in trouble. You took the first step by posting for help on here. Stick around....welcome to our family. The more info you get the stronger you will get. Everyone starts out confused and scared just like you. I have been battling a percocet addiction for years now. I think i just finally have surrendered and realize that pills=a horrifying life for me, not euphoria like my brain and addiction wants me to think. I have detoxed from oxy's before myself and it is HELL but worth it. I don't know how many times i would walk into my friends house and wonder if i was gonna find him dead on the floor. I finally couldn't take it anymore and had a long talk with him. It basically got to the point that he was doing sooooooooo many i was afraid he wasn't gonna pull outta this one. He is fine now by the about 120 days clean in NA and AA and life in general. Such a 100 degree turn around. So please stick around, keep posting .... the more info you have the better.

Re: Some questions how to get started, I would really apperciate some help

Hey SH,
Just read the previous posts to you. Yes the rehab does seem unanimous, doesn't it? One thing about recovery, when you see it as taking back your life and literally 'slaying the dragon', you will do things you thought were impossible or that you were too scared to do before. You seem like a brave and committed person to me, and I know you will succeed. I agree to tell this to your therapist, as it is ALL related, and if he/she is not qualified to counsel you in this area, you can be referred to someone who is. I should mention that when I was breathing Oxy like air everyday, I NEVER ate. Didn't have to. Wasn't hungry. I was just 'fine' without food....yeah right.

For me too, it was all about finally coming clean with people close to me. Only you know who, if anyone, is safe to confide in, but for me this was crucial to kicking it....and SO amazingly liberating, because my biggest fear was before was that anyone would find out. And of course everyone knew something was up already, as is usually the case.

Keep us posted on how you're doing. I'll be sending you positive they come...ready???
