Re: how to stop oxy?

Hi, Btj,

I am in exactly the same situation and have decided to go with Suboxone, although others here will suggest a detox center and follow-up with NA group meetings. As far as self-help, I have been able to taper..but at a certain point I have such crippling clinical depression that I haven't made it fully. There is a real nice fellow, Philster, on these boards who has specific knowledge for hydro tapers....but I do not know if they apply to oxy. You can try "calling him out" with a separate thread.

Oxy is truly an "evil" turns on you very quickly. With even the smallest amount, it soon demands that your brain receptors be "fed" on schedule. Physically, my body is unable to handle more than a couple of 40 mgs a I do not keep going up in the amount I take. But I do not even get a "high" from them...I just take enough to keep withdrawal at bay. I am desperately hoping the Suboxone will be the first step in relearning how to enjoy life as I once did. And I wish the same for you! Best of luck to you and let us know how things go, Lynn :-)

Re: how to stop oxy?

Another person in Oxy hell. I think that age and health have a whole lot to do with how you get off the crap. If you are young and healthy then I suggest a medically-supervised detox facility. There are some quick-detox facilities out there(spend the extra money for a good one---steer clear of ones in strip malls) that will put you under with benzos and you'll sleep through the worst part of the physical withdrawals. A regular detox center will ween you down with darvocette over a few days. The physical withdrawal is difficult but the mental part of it is very tricky. That is why I always suggest a good rehab(at least 28 days). My nephew kicked Oxy and Methadone in a detox then went to a 28 day rehab. He's been clean a couple of years. If you are truly sick of being sick then you have a good chance at cleaning up. You can try a taper but keep in mind that tapering rarely works. Doing it alone rarely works. Suboxone is another way to go but then you have to kick that stuff. I reckon I'm "old school".....going through the withdrawal hell and coming out the other side not having to kick another drug. You'll need help with this gorilla on your back. Find an addiction specialist or just get a detox/rehab stay lined up. Stop before you lose everything.
