Anyone quit smoking cigs????

I've been smoking off and on for I dunno my whole life it seems I quit cold turkey two days ago my son has been asking me to for about a year now. Anyway I can't breathe because I'm breathing through my cravings so I'm dizzy also, If I chew anymore [email protected]#$ gum my jaw is gonna snap off. I don't want to try the patch anything I can do to help with the cravings aside from eat 24 hr a day?????

Re: Anyone quit smoking cigs????

Suck on sugar free hard candy, Altoids, etc. Drink a glass of water. KEEP BUSY! Take a little walk, do jumping jacks, or perform a task when the urge hits--anything to take your mind off the crave. Each crave only lasts about 15 seconds (although it seems like hours, i know) so tell yourself you can do this! Two days is quite an accomplishment, so hang in there for your son--he will be so proud. I quit 3 years ago and don't even think about smoking anymore.

Re: Anyone quit smoking cigs????

It's been 15+ years for me and I still get cravings. You can do it, but it won't be easy. It gets easier every day, it gets tolerable after a month and I'd say downright manageable after 6 months. Wishing you the best...

Re: Anyone quit smoking cigs????

I have been trying to quit for about a year now and I constantly go off and on. I think after a week or so it gets a lot easier...I always seem to start again after I go to the bar and everyone is smoking, or go camping for a weekend with smokers. I have tried many different Dr. prescribed remedies....Zyban seemed to work very well for me...maybe you could give that a try.

Good luck and Good health!!

Re: Anyone quit smoking cigs????

i quit cold turkey and it can be hard. but it is doable. i used jolly ranchers. another tip, keep your hands busy. do something productive with them. i have heard that the physical addiction is gone after 72 hours, after that it is a mental addiction. don't give up!!!! this is something that you can definately accomplish!
