    Norco addiction

I have been on Norco since Aug. 07 after having shoulder surgery. I have been slowly weaning myself off of these pills. I was taking about 6 to 7 pills a day and now I am down to 1 and a half only at night. Does any one have any suggestions on how to deal with the anxiety? I feel like I have Restless Leg Syndrome all day long.

    Thanks for your response!

    Re: Norco addiction

I'd keep tapering down to 1/2 pill or so. And, if you could get a script for some type of anxiety med, that would help a lot....Especially at night to help you sleep. I bet when you take the Norco at night, it calms you and you sleep well. Anxiety meds are perfectly fine to take long term if needed, or you could ween from those as well... which would be easier than the Norco. The first little while on anxiety med would probably need to be a fairly good dose to mask the absence of the Norco, and then you could slowly decrease to a good stable dose. Just my .02. Good luck!

    Re: Norco addiction

    Hello Laurie,

I am on day 19 clean from Hyrdo and Oxy.

I did a rapid taper with Doctor's supervision.

He put me on 10mgs of librium 3 times a day and also gave me a small script for xanax (.25mg tabs - 30 tabs). He told me to ONLY take the xanax if I was having a really bad anxiety.

Down side is these are Benzos (Highly addictive) and my Doc didn't want me to trade one habbit for another so I have to visit him weekly. I tell him what I have left of each and he tells me if I can/should have more. I don't really take the xanax much. only a few times but my Doc said I needed to take the librium even if I felt fine 3 times a day to level me off. I'm Skeeered of anything addictive.

Deep breathing helps. Find something to do to keep your mind busy too.

Anxiety is part of the taper or the withdrawals. It will pass. Mine has passed and I feel fine now. I still have anxiety but I can deal with it myself and not have to hide behind a pill anymore.

    Hope this helps.

    Peace.

Thank you for responding! I really appreciate your help and support. How many days between each 1/2 reduction would you suggest?
    Thanks!

    Re: Norco addiction

If you have a plentiful supply and inventory isn't an issue, I'd suggest tapering as slowly as you can. It takes your body a while to adjust. You could even taper by 1/4 if you'd like. 1/2 is probably more practical because it's difficult to cut a pill more than 1/2. Once you stabilize on a given dose, you can taper again. Let your body tell you when it's time. Giving up the last little bit may be the toughest, but that's where the anxiety meds come into play.

If I was forced into recommending a schedule, I'd say a week to week and a half in between each taper. A couple days may not be enough and anything longer is probably a waste of time.

    Good luck!

    Hi Laurie,

I agree with "Let your body tell you when it's time"
I did a really quick taper off Oxy and I was hurting BAD.

It is all about getting clean so do what it takes. We are all different and I guess I just wanted to scare myself into sobriety forever.

I can say, I will never forget that little walk thru H*LL.

I said this before, not to be vulgar but I would rather take a gun shot to nads than go thru the W/D's again. OUCH!!!

    Just keep on Keepin' on.

I'm on day 20 clean and I feel great!!

    Peace.
