    Quitting Tramadol

    <ref: http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=706195>

    I'm on day three of cold turkey from tramadol. Pure hell, but reading your comments has helped immensely. I'm having every withdrawal symptom your mentioned, but the one symptom you mentioned that got my attention, was the mind ZAPS. I've been trying to taper off for three months and thats when the ZAPS started. I decided I CAN'T taper off, so here I am coldturkeying ( is that a word)...

    Re: How to Stop Cold-Turkey Tramadol / Ultram

    Day 4.

    Today there is light at the end of the tunnel as the withdrawal symptoms from tramadol are not as bad. They are still here, just not as intense. I have found that the flushing with green tea is the way to go, and an old fashioned hot bath with epsom salts eases your trembling muscules. In desperation last night, I took a benadryl and it seemed to ease the suffering a little bit. At least, I thought it did, and was able to sleep 4 hours for the first time in 3 days and night.
    This is the hardest thing I have ever done and I am 63 years old, have four kids, eight grandkids, and have been through alot of pain, physical and mental, in my lifetime. This drug is EVIL, deceptive and bequiling. To those of you who are taking tramadol, get off this chemical anyway you can. Cold turkey is horrible, dangerous, and probably the only way.
    Hang in there, your life is at stake...

    Re: How to Stop Cold-Turkey Tramadol / Ultram

    It may be dangerous to CT tramadol, but it is probably the only way without taking MORE drugs for the symptoms, so what is the point of that? I have made over 30 days without tramadol after many years of 400mg daily, and have no desire to take it EVER again. The very thought of taking tramadol almost sends me into a panic.

    Hang in there, there will be and end to the horrible symptoms of CT that you are suffering. After about 10 days or so, you will be able to sleep like you haven't slept since starting tramadol. That is the reward for your pain, and it is worth it. I am over 30 days without tramadol now, and the methods some of us have posted on dealing with the withdrawals do actually work, like the green tea, hot baths, and all the things that lets you know that you are doing something to get this vile drug out of your body. You are in my prayers...

    Re: How to Stop Cold-Turkey Tramadol / Ultram

    Every day is better than the day before while going thru the hell of withdrawal from tramadol. If you take just one tablet, you are going to have to repeat the horrible days that you have already survived!!! I kept that thought in mind when tempted to ease the suffering of CT with a "mercy" fix. The pain you are describing will fade a little at a time with some of the methods mentioned in previous post, like a hot epsom salt bath, benadryl helps the trembling extremities, and flushing your system with green teas, help alot. The hardest part for me after the first 5 days of detox, was to force myself to get up and do something, anything, just move, wash the dishes, feed the dog. Just do it, and when you take to take a break from whatever chore you are attempting to complete, sit down (don't lay down) breathe deeply, and remind yourself that you will never have to go thru this agony again, that you are better than you were yesterday, and much better than the first few days of withdrawal. The sneezing thing has lasted about 3 weeks, but that is tapering off, also. You have already come thru the worst of the CT, and even though I don't know you, I do know that you are a strong person or you wouldn't have made it this far.
    I am proud of you, and (this will sound foolish) I am proud of myself for giving this horrible drug the boot from my life.
    I'll check back for future posts on YOUR success story.
