    Adrenal Fatigue or ??

    1. I'm 3+ years postmenopausal.
    2. I already know my estradial is low (11). Progesterone is 56 and FSH is 70.
    3. My cortisol was recently tested 8 a.m = .44 (range was .04-.56 mcg/dL). 4p.m. was .04 (range was anything less than .15 mcg/dL). Told cortisol levels were "normal."
    4. I have a morning flare up of pain from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome...turns on about 8:30-9:00 am and turns off about 9:30-10:00 a.m like clockwork. Can't do a thing to prevent it...or so I thought.
    5. When doctor suspected adrenal depletion, I read. While I waited for results, I read. I thought "add some DHEA" instead added 15mg Pregnenolone. Pain went far 9 out of 12 days no morning flare up.
    6. because of an upcoming surgery can't test ALL hormones to see what, if anything, is deficient. Believe Pregnenolone and/or DHEA and ???? are deficient to explain disappearance of morning pain.
    7. Is it possible that with the relatively high cortisol in the am (even though within range it is on the high end) if I was low in either DHEA and/or Pregnenolone that the Cortisol/DHEA/Pregnenolone RATIO would be higher thus giving the "affect" of HIGH cortisol which might explain why the pain comes and goes at that particular hour?
    8. If I have normal cortisol but low DHEA and/or Pregnenolone is that considered "adrenal fatigue?" I seem to have all the other signs but then again many are quite common to many ailments. I've always salted things to death...I have always had low blood pressure and am suspectible to tiny dizzines if I get up too quickly, I am always tired (isn't everyone), I am moody and quick tempered (menopause too?) etc., etc.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know why you cannot be tested but...if I were in your shoes I would ask for DHEA sulfate, aldosterone, renin, ATCH. Testosterone?
Renin and ACTH can be very fussy tests (aldosterone too not sure) and need to be in lavendar tubes, and spun immediately, then frozen. Some labs will come out with chilled tubes and keep in on ice or in chilled water - then you can be assured that your tubes are going to be handled right. Some things deteriorate in the tube and if left at room temp, your results will be lower than they really are. I learned the hard way when I was trying to get diagnosed with Cushing's and the busy lab put my tub in a bin. If it goes in a bin - scream! Call for a manager. I bring my own ice as I know the lab near me messes up.
DHEA will convert to testosterone and estrogen and the adrenal makes it. Renin and aldosterone will give an idea about the low BP and florinef is the med that will help as well as the salt.
    Good luck!
