    Addison's Diseas and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Hello, my sister was diagnosed with Addison's disease and then later Rheumatoid Arthritis. Her Rheumatiod dotor and endo doctor are now fighting between themselfs on her levels of prednasone, in the meantime she is experiencing loss of blood pressure, dizzy spells and times of tiredness. She takes hydrocortisone as her replacement drug, the endo doctor wants her off of prednisone, but her rheumatoid doctor says it's the only way to fight off her arthritis. I can't find any info online for people with these two problems, it seems a rare occurance, can anyone help us figure out what to do?

Re: Addison's Diseas and Rheumatoid Arthritis

I have Addison's and mild arthritis. Here is just my opinion:
It sounds like her endo has the long-term, big picture in mind. Pred could quickly bring on the Cushing's syndrome.
I don't know what it's like to have a hard case of RA, but I would look into alternative joint therapy. If she could get off the pred, I think she might feel better in other ways.
However, I think that if she has good support base from friends and family, whatever she chooses will work better. Frame of mind, self-esteem, peaceful contentment and ability to have hopes and dreams are essential for both those conditions. Stress tends to activate all the symptoms of each. I'm glad you're there for her!
