    Smile i may have addisons

    HI,

I am 38 and have Hypothyroidism. I recently had a cortisol test and my initial results came back at a level of 210. I was told that the normal range was 150 - 650 ( or thereabouts ) and as my test was at 9am these levels should be much higher.

I have been refereed to see a hormone specialist but am just curious to know if anyone had an initial level of 210 at peak time and didn't have Addison's. Or, indeed they did have it?

Could it be adrenal fatigue? which is why I went to the drs as I read about on a thyroid website.

    any advice is greatly appreciated

    regards
    louise

    Re: i may have addisons

Hi I have secondary Addisons which means I got I from taking too many steroids either orally and/or via inject in my back, neck, shoulder or foot, I had them in lots of places. Also, I saw dr who was not qualified in endocrinology and put me on cortef for about 4 months which is a steroid and it put my adrenals to sleep.

Do you know why they think you have it? What test did they do, acth? I would recommend a endocrinologist, this is their area of expertise. But I am not a dr, cathy

    Re: i may have addisons

ive never had steroids but it's probably because I have hyperthyroidism which is another autoimmune system problem. It's seems if you have it your more suceptable to Addison's.

I just had the cortisol blood test but I am being referred to an endocrinologist who will do the other tests to confirm it. Fingers crossed it's not though!!

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

    Re: i may have addisons

Hmmm...I have hypothyroidism. Diagnosed in 2000. My mom has it and my sister who is much older than me, 78, I'm 58, had hers removed as a teenager (or mom did at the drs advice).

Hopefully seeing the endo will really help figure it all out. Good luck, let us know plz, cathy
