    Elevated DHEA but Normal Testosterone?

Hi all, I posted this in the hormone group, but thought someone here may be able to help as well. I'm a new member here and I am 20-years-old.

I've been having "classic" hyperthyroid symptoms...until my thyroid panel came back normal. I've been suffering from weight loss with appetite decrease and occasional GI issues, hair loss, fatigue, and dizziness when standing.

One result that stood out to me what my elevated DHEA Sulfate -

    DHEA Sulfate: 439 ug/dL [95-317]

My endocrinologist said this wasn't an issue because my testosterone level was within normal range. He said we will just keep an eye on it. I had a cortisol stimulation test (checking for Addison's/adrenal insufficiency) which I guess was also normal.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on what could be causing this?

Thanks for any and all suggestions, I appreciate it!

I would think it was adrenal/cortisol related but if that was ruled it out the next thing that comes to mind is stress. Are you under lots of stress? Stress can raise DHEA.

Meggie12, You should post your thyroid numbers on the thyroid board. Your symptoms DO sound like there is a thyroid problem.

Hi, thanks for the reply. So I am under a bit of stress, yet when all these symptoms started, I had very little stress. I've also seen two doctor's regarding my thyroid and both came to the conclusion that it was completely normal. Thanks for the suggestions though!

Maybe it's a drug interaction. Do you take metformin? Or do you have ovary stuff going on? PCOS, for instance. Either of those will raise DHEA. If you have the racing heart typical of hyper, maybe you need to look at the thyroid again. I hope you are feeling better.

Nope, I'm not on any drugs. I don't have any of the classical signs of PCOS or any other ovary problems. I also have been tested extensively for thyroid problems, all negative. Thanks for the suggestions though!
