8 year old son Addison's disease? Very low cortisol and dhea

Hi all! I'm new here! I just got my 8 years old son's saliva test back and very concerned by the results:

    Salivary cortisol 8am: 2.6 nmol/L - normal range is 12-25
Salivary cortisol noon: 1.3 nmol/L - normal range is 5-11
    Salivary cortisol 4pm: 0.5 nmol/L - normal range is 3-9
    Salivary cortisol 8pm: 1.0 nmol/L - normal range is 1-5
Cortisol burden (total): 5. - normal range is 20-42

Salivary DHEA (pooled from all 4 samples): <0.02 - normal range is 0.12-1.2

The naturopath we see is thinking Addison's disease and wants him to get in to see the pediatrician right away. He's never seen results so low before. I'm very scared.

My son has been suffering with the following symptoms for the last 2 years progressively getting worse:

Weight gain, poor appetite with periods of extreme hunger, urinary incontinence, very tanned even with sunscreen every day, dark patches on his neck and arms, extreme fatigue, muscle cramps and pains in his legs to the point if crying and can barely walk, back pain, head aches, out of control anger and irritability, depression.

He also has low iron, 31 normal 40-200, low vitamin D 77 normal 75-150, high calcium and magnesium.

I've had his thyroid tested too:

    TSH 3.98 normal 0.5-5.0
    Free t4 13.0 normal 11-23
    Free t3 7.3 normal 3.5-6.5
Thyroperoxidase Ab 32 normal under 50

I've left a message with the pediatrician and his family doctor.

In grade one he was sick 9 times with pneumonia, bronchitis, strep throat, roseola, and more, all with high fevers and missed 42 days of school. Not sure if this is related.

Does this look like Addison's disease? What should I do?

    Thank you!!!

I agree, looking at your son's results and comparing them to the normals, I would be concerned and call the doctor. Wish I could answer your question, but I think it's best to let a doctor look at the results. Hope your son feels better soon.

Thank you Dorri! We saw his doctor Friday and he is sending him for a blood test for cortisol and dhea tomorrow morning. If that is low he will refer him for further testing.

My son is progressively getting worse. He cut his foot on Thursday and got a fever of 37.5.

I will keep you posted on the blood results.

    Christina
