    Allergies and throat issues

    Hey everyone,
I've had allergies/asthma all my life. I'm in my late 50's and lately, I've been dealing with mucus in my throat that I feel like I can't swallow all the way down. (Globus Sensation) I've dealt with post nasal drip and ear pressure on my left side. One allergist said that I have a balloon in the problem ear but not one ENT that I've gone to has ever told me that. I have ear fullness and a little bit of pain in that ear that I've had for about 3 years now. My ears constantly ring and I've had ear testing out the ying yang and I get wax taken out of my ears every 6 months. This is all so frustrating. I just want to feel good again and the globus sensation that I feel, sometimes I will get a little sharp pain once in awhile on the inside of my throat. I don't have a respiratory tract infection or anything like that although sometimes for a few seconds, it feels like it is. I don't cough or clear my throat or anything like that. I've had a blood work up done and all is fine there. I don't believe it's acid reflux because I don't eat spicy or citrus stuff and I've tried Mylanta and some other antacids which don't take the globus feeling away. Can all of this be due to allergies? I take Singulair and occasionally Zyrtec which again, doesn't help the throat thing. I don't drink a lot of liquid on a daily basis which has been a problem for years but I'm trying to do better at that. Anyone with allergies deal with this? So frustrating that it gives me anxiety.😔

Yes, it is Post Nasal Drip (PND). Singulair is more a med for Asthma that has some impact on allergies but it not a true antihistamine. You should probably be on zyrtec daily. I've had allergies all my life and the one thing that helps my PND is nasal saline spray when I get up in the morning. I may do 2 -3 sprays 3-4 times before it all clears. A lot of folks like nasal rinses like NeilMed but I hate the full ear feeling from that. You migth try both and see if one works for you. Also, Mucinex can be helpful. I have also found that leaning over to cough helps dislodge it.

Hi! I have been told that nasal sprays should be short term use. I don't like using the nettie pot thing. I read a story about amoebas being in the water and that can kill ya so don't want to try that. I take zyrtec off and on because it makes me so tired and claritin and allegra don't help. The anxiety I think makes the globus feeling worse! I have really bad neck and back issues and was told that could be the cause too so I'm not sure where to start with whom.

I'm talking about a saline spray - you can use it forever. Try Ayr if your store has it. It's not an antihistamine spray. Take your zyrtec at night if it makes you tired.
