    dizziness, motionsikness and allergies?

    hi,
i have been having problems with dizziness, motionsickness and fevery feelings for almost 3 months now, has any one had this due to allergies? my ent says i have an inner ear disturbance and it could be due to allergies, i had never heard this and am worried it could be something more, i have had all the tests done on the inner ear and they came back normal. any info would be greatly appricated! thanks, lib
also he said i was highly allergic to dust and dust mites.

Do a search for 'Lightheaded and ears ringing' - I have experienced similar symptoms and have found relief in Chorotrimeton.

No, I slept fine. - But had nausea, motion sickness feeling during the day. My symptoms were a result of allergies to some unknown substance.

Allergies cause different symptoms in different people. No two seem to be the same. If doctors cannot diagnose your symptoms, it is a good chance that they are caused by allergies. If you look for a cause for keeping you up all night for motion sicknesses, you may never find one. You may be the only one!

Do you get cracking ears when you swallow? If you do the negative pressure in your ears could be the cause of the dizziness and motion sickness. I'm going through that right now. I'm also allergic to dustmites. I've been dealing with this problem for 3 months now as well. I was motion sick for the first 2 months. You may have ETD (Eustachian Tube Dysfunction) that is causing the negative pressure in your ears thus causing the dizziness and motion sickness
Did your doctor perscribe any nasal sprays or antihistamines? They may work for you. Don't worry the motion sickness feeling will go away.

i also have just developed horrible allergies starting in april and i have never had them before! what makes it worse is that i have mainly indoor allergies, DUST IS THE WORST! and whats weird, is that i also get a fevery feeling at time, like hot flashes. it causes my temp to rise a little but never above 99.4. does this happen to anyone else? my doctors say a temp in the 99's is not fever and to not worry about it. it may also be due to sinus problems that i have been having since i had a sinus infection for like 3 months and needed 3 rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it.

    Hi Lib
It sounds like you are going through exactly what I am. I also had Labrynthitis for the last 3 months but it's over.
What I believe you are dealing with is ETD because that is what I have. It is called eustachian tube dysfunction and it causes all the symptoms you are getting even the falling backwards when you are trying to sleep. Most of these symptoms will dissappear but it will take time. My dizziness is gone but the crackling and popping isen't. I've tried many antihistamines and flonase as well as nasacort but nothing seems to be working. I am trying a natural remedy to thin out the mucous so it will drain easier and the eustachian tubes will unplug hopefully. If this doesn't work I will be putting it ear tubes in 3-4 weeks.
I haven't had any allergy shots yet but I have the serum ready to go.
I will be going for a CT scan on my sinuses on Wednesday Dec 3, 2003 to see if they are inflammed still. I've had many ear tests and they all came back fine.
Do you get tinnitus (ringing in your ears) If you do it's because of the negative pressure in your middle caused by the inflammed eustachian tubes from the allergies.
If you find anything that helps please let me know because this is driving me crazy.

    hi,
i dont really have the tinnitus that i have noticed, i was suspected of having lab eary on but the ent said it does not last 12 weeks and does not stop and start. what are your feelings on this. he also said to watch the salt and caffine, not sure why. were you given this advice as well. do you notice if salt caffine or alcohol effect your symptoms? how long until you knew the lab was gone? what were your symptoms from the begining. and also if you dont mind, which tests did they give you on the inner ear? could you feel fluid in your ears? good luck with the ct! lib

    Hi Lib
I was told that Labrynthitis can last longer than 3 months. For the first 3 weeks I had very bad vertigo and a very congested head. I felt horrible for 2 !/2 months -malaise, fatigue, tremors and motion sick. I couldn't drive or watch T.V. without getting motion sick. Now I also have ETD. I'm not sure if the virus has anything to do with this problem or if it is just from the allergies. I'm much better now about 98% better.
Caffeine, alcohol, sugar and salt do effect those with Lab because they cause inflammation of the labyrinth and it makes you feel worse. If you have Lab it's best to stay away from these things for a while.
Everytime I had something with salt or sugar I felt terrible. I haven't had coffee in about 4 years. Having salt and sugar now doesn't bother me at all.
I had an audiogram, a pressure test, tuning fork test, and a few other tests but I can't remember their names. Everything came back normal. The only problem I'm facing now is the ETD. There is negative pressure that is making me feel sick at times especially after a car ride. The car is air tight and I can feel the pressure on my ear drums. The Eustachian Tubes aren't equalizing the pressure causing discomfort. I think PE tubes may be the only solution. What are all the symptoms you get? Has any ENT diagnosed you with ETD? Has any ENT suggested PE tubes?

well, it started on sept 1,(i think) had a sinus infection and was up all night motion sick, thought it was something i ate. about 4 days later i felt like i was spiking a fever but never did. the next week i had a cold it lasted about two weeks and the next week had 3 dizzy spells in a 14 hour period, never vertigo, from then on it was motionsickness and hot flashy feelings, my vision was off and i felt creepy, all the way through oct off and on, nov seemed better until the night of the 13th i was up all night motion sick,(did this happen to you) scince then i have just had mild motion sick feelings, actually almost none, but sat night i felt like i was falling back while trying to sleep.and again the next morning weird sensations.(can you relate)
i can feel fluid in my right ear and both crack and pop.
my ent did not even look in my ears last monday, i will ask him to check them and tell him about the fluid again. what did your ent say the lenght could be? did the ent say for you to avoid the food and drink? can you feel fluid in your ear? i am going crazy as i have no diagnosis cuz my ent says labs does not start and stop and does not last longer than 6 weeks.
i dont know what to think! how do you know when it is gone.....i want to drink coors light and celabrate the holidays but i am scared to eat or drink anything. did your lab start and stop? i have a client who had tubes as an adult and she loved it, they eventually fell out and she is fine. thanks for all your help, cant wait for the reply! lib
p.s. where do you live, where is your ent?

    Hi Lib
My lab came and dragged on but it went away. There were times when I would feel great for a couple of days and then feel terrible again. It's known to do that but don't let that discourage you. You may feel good for a couple of days and then terrible for a day but within time you will start feeling better more and more.My ENT said to stay away from sugar, caffeine, salt and alcohol for a while. I feel a gluey feeling in my ear when I swallow. It's mucous but its definately like glue and it's taking it's sweet time to drain because my eustachian tubes are inflammed and plugged up.
Are you very close with your client who had the tubes put in? Can you ask them why they put them in, and how long they stayed in? Also Lib did they have allergies like us?

    Talk soon.........

Exactly what you described happens to me due to "environmental allergies". You breath a fume or scent and BINGO you inner ears begin to swell, thus when you have simply gotten too much of a dose of it your inner ears just plain overly swell causeing the Vertego type feeling. Believe me I've been there many times. The first time it happened it scared me to death. I had been in a tire shop getting my car checked all day. Breathing the fumes from the rubber tires and then in the evening I went to type on an old fashion typewriter with ink on a tape (remember those) OPPS then the entire room was spinning out of control. Emergency room Doc said take Dramamine (over the counter motion sickness med) to reduce the inner ear swelling. Took 2 weeks for the world to return to competely normal. Went to my allergy Dr and he tested me for environmental allergies and that was it alright. Now I recognize the early warning signs and when I feel that I quickly take Dramamine. I must not breath paint fumes, I cannot pump gas, Can't be around scented items like perfume. All kinds of things to avoid but mostly the bad guys are any petroleum based products and anything with a man-made scent. Fresh ink on a newspaper can even set it off.

P.S. I am also allergic to dust mites but the reaction is entirely diff for that.
