Question Could a cold be actually allergies?

I woke up at 5am last night with a really bad sore throat. Also nose stuffed up, eyes itchy, throat clearing and chest congested. I know that I have year-round environmental allergies (which causes my chest and sinuses to get congested), so was wondering since the pollen in my area is so high right now that maybe this could be from allergies to pollen? It is hard to tell the difference from allergies and colds. Or is it that the allergies makes you develop a cold.
Any advice on how to correct this or prevent it in the future?
    Thank you,
    Michelle

Hi, I can't spell to good so please bare with me...lol

I was wondering about this myself....I have trouble with pollen and environmetal allergies also and (PND) post nasaul drip.
I don't much think allergies and colds are the same? maybe related but I think they are different but at the same time give the you that same misrarable feeling!!!

PND can do that over night I know it does me!!! I take "Mucinex"600mg OTC expectorant to help break up the dry and agravateing phlegm/mucus
Robitussin-PE is pretty good also but you probably already know this!

To actually tell the difference you may need to ask your Doctor or allergy specialist....? sometimes when my allergies act up I don't have a sore throat/ or congested? but the presure behind the eyes and wateree eyes and the numb feeling in my face are present! I have to go get injections for that....when I get colds I have weteree eyes sore throat and very congested.

It does look like allergies and colds are the same to me to? the way they both make you feel. but I think they are different? but I don't know forsure..interesting!!!

Sinus suffers just have to take meds and try to stay indoors and use a air filters in your home watch what you eat take your meds or use a sinus machine to clear out your sinus if it gets to bad/some times surgery is required to open up your nasul passage ways!!...and for colds bout all you can do for them is take otc meds to try to dry it out drink plenty of fluids stay warm and let that old cold run it's corse. and of corse the old mama thing.... wash your hands a lot....lol

The air filter machines I mention may not help you? so if you don't have one already please don't go out and buy one...check with your allergy specialist first.
The air filter machines do help me with the environmental issues tho!

If you find out if sinus allergies and colds are cause from the same thing let me know? I would tend to think a cold is virus related? but sinus problems I think is just a for certain people? gee aint we people that get both Lucky...lol I check this board about once a week!
Good luck.....and I hope you start to feel better very soon!

These are some symptoms of a chemical exposure

What did you do the day before? Or is your husband doing a different job in which he is exposed to some type of ethylene glycol ether? (Such as 2-butoxyethanol) There is such a thing as 2nd hand solvent exposure & if your husband is getting an exposure, you can pick it up from his breath. The itchy eyes is an important note. This chemical's primary route of exposure is thru the eye membranes and the cuticle areas. . . and then 'flu-like' symptoms as you describe .... even sore throat can be a way your body complains about too much of some type of chemical. Other things are an odd cough & a few other things.
