Sick of being sick with Vasomotor rhinitis

I have been sick for over 20 years and was just told by a specialist that I had Vasomotor rhinitis. I stay sick all of the time and I'm so sick of being sick. I'm sensitive to the enviroment, If I'm around any fumes, smoke, vapors, dry air, perfumes etc... I get sick a few days later to the point that I have no energy, sinus are tight, whads of sinus conjestion that will not move either way sometimes (it is so grose)I get many sinus infections a year. I had sinus surgery in 2000 and was told that I need it again but the docor said that it would make me even more sensitive to the enviorment. I stay so sick that I can not hold down a job, I worked for 18 years in a plant making fuel injectors but had to give it up because of the starter fluid we used to test the injectors. I'm not as bad as I was since I have learned to avoid many things that bothjer me. anyone else have Vasomotor rhinitis? would this be considered a disability?

Re: Sick of being sick with Vasomotor rhinitis

I sure do get my share of sneezing and runny nose, but other than it being annoying it doesn't really make me sick. I hope you find a doctor that can help you. In the meantime you have to treat the symptoms. Good luck!

My grandmother developed this, and Flonase and astelin nosespray has really helped her. Her case isn't as severe as yours, but maybe these nosesprays would help you.

    Re: Vasomotor rhinitis

What symptoms did your GrandMother have? I do use Flonase daily and it does seem to help. I have learned over the years to avoid certain things but sometimes I can not avoid them all. I painted my sons bedroon last weekend(even though I knew better) and I feel so bad this week that I don't even have the energy to type this. My joints are so sore and my head is stuffed up. I do not have much for taste so food does not sound good to me and of course when you do not eat well them you do not feel well.

    Re: Vasomotor rhinitis

I also have the problem you have described. I have just had sinus surgery 4 wks ago and have little help from it. My main problem is excessive mucus its constantly in my throat and mouth I very rarely get anything out of my nose. I'm desperate thats why I had the surgery it did fix a deviation but the mucus thing is still here! I'm on flonase and astelin also I just started so I don't know if it will help it didn;t help before the surgery I took it then also. I have lupus and the docs think it could also be autoimmune related. this is misery let me know anyone if you have any suggestions.

    Re: Vasomotor rhinitis

For my grandmother it was just a chronic stuffy nose, with no obvious cause. She didn't have sensitivity to scents or anything, probably b/c her nose was almost completely blocked most of the time.
