    Nasal Polyps...

I had a catscan a few months ago to see my deviated septum and my sinus's. Well I just had a opperation 4 days ago, and when the ENT was in the middle of the opperation she found polyps on my right side that the catscan didnt show. Is this normal or do you think that after I got the catscan the polyps came? What causes polyps? She removed them but will they reoccur? If I am around things that I am allergic to, will that cause them to reoccur? After my surgery do you think that it is a smart idea to go see an allergist and get shots for what I am allergic to? I just want the polyps to reoccur and I am going to do what ever I can so they want. If you have any advice to help me on this subject it, I would really appreicate it, thanks!

    Re: Nasal Polyps...

I had the surgery in July of this year. my symptoms were head pressure, headaches and at times I was having trouble breathing. Before being diagnosed I was sent to a cardiac and pulminary specialist before to rule out any lung or heart issues. I then had a sinus cat scan which showed nasal polyps and a deviated septum. I had been on anti biotics a number of times and nothing changed. After another sinus cat scan I opted to have the surgery. It has now been almost 6 mos and I still have the same symptoms. I have been back to the ENT and an allergist and had another sinus cat scan but everything is coming back normal. While I can go a few days feeling OK most days I still feel a little off and some days I have trouble functioning.

It is very frustrating. I am not on any drugs snow since nothing has helped and I'm not even sure what needs to be treated. I recently had a post op cat scan and everything came back normal. I have heard from people that cat scans do not catch everything and until surgery there is no 100% way of knowing what will be found.

My uncle is a Dr (though not an ENT) and he advised that it can take up to 6 mos to fully recover so in your case I wouldn't panic - its only been a short time.

Has anyone had similar experiences. I really don'y know what to do next. I have had brain scans, allergy tests and everything is negative. This all started a year ago- prior to that I had no major issues. Would appreciate any feedback.

    Re: Nasal Polyps...

Polyps are not caused by a CTscan, they happen often for no reason at all. I had several that were removed during my 3 sinus surgeries I had. Polyps are pretty much scar tissue formed from years of bad allergies, sinus infections, deviated septums, and other causes. It is really not that big of a deal, but getting them removed is great. It will help you breath better and clear your sinuses. I had a polyp removed a couple months ago in my ENT's office. Since than I have been so much better.

    Cool Re: Nasal Polyps...

Eagles: Make sure U get a copy for your own files of the pathology report &
also all the CT's. A polyp 'can' be a big deal. It's not always benign like I
thought. Yrs. ago, I had a small one & let it go. Later I got 1 to many sinus
infections & had polyp + tissue pathology. They found 2 polyps & 1 was
benign & other was cancer. No way to tell till path. is done. If removed &
U got a 'buff & polish' thrown in, they should not return. More infections
in different spots can grow new ones. I'm not sure they really know what
causes them. We can get intestinal & bowel polyps. We eat fiber & still may
get them. Glad You're fixed. Good luck w/ allergies next.
