If this has been a constant problem for a month or more, check into acid reflux - a form called laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR). It causes chronic severe coughing, sinusitis-like sympotms, asthma-like symtpoms and/or lump in the throat. There's a lot of information out there if you do a search on the term. If you have any questions, please post them.

I don't mean to "steal" the thread, but I too have had chronic, long-term problems with thick phlegm that I cough up almost every morning (and sometimes in the eveening too). It drives me NUTZ and my throat gets red and sore from coughing/clearing. I've been thinking this is some sort of allergies or maybe candida, but I don't seem to have the classic symptoms of either.

Someone just suggested I may have silent reflux or LPR, but again, I don't have some of the classic symptoms. I never have had a lump in my throat and I never have pain, unless it's from coughing. I have more symptoms of LOW acid and poor digestion etc. I suppose that doesn't mean I don't have a weak esophageal sphincter..

But my main symptom/complaint is coughing up phlegm from deep in throat and/or lungs...... Does that sound like food allergies (or mites or dust etc)??

    Thanks!

Sinus drainage can drip into the lungs and cause chest congestion and even bronchitis if the sinus drainage is infected.
