Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

Hi all! I had maybe two good days without hives thanks to Zyrtec and didn't take it today and they have returned tonight I am really trying to put a bunch of symptoms together since I have recently addressed the gall bladder thing and everything comes back to the same thing--my stomach and colon issues. What this means is the acid reflux/possible bile reflux and the colon problem with the diverticulosis. Throw in some sinus/postnasal drip/feels like a migraine coming on problem and what have you got? Me and my hives! It all seems to definitely point to an autoimmune/allergic/digestive disease thing and I would like to ask if anyone else has found the same response either chronically or at various times. Has anyone found a med that kind of helps with all of these connections other than an H1 or H2 blocker? I end up stopping the meds sometimes because of the side effects. Sometimes the disease isn't as bad as the treatment. Right now I'm taking Zyrtec once a day, Nasonex, and Risperdal 2x a day. They make me tired but at least I have a grip on the hive thing. Thanks so much--Hopeto--

Yeah, it's called leaky gut syndrome. It causes terrible GI and allergy problems. And BTW, traditional docs don't understand this yet.

Have you had a complete thyroid testing performed? Antibodies and everything? I have Hashimoto's newly diagnosed.. been treating all the symptoms for years.

If you want to rule out AI and thyroid issues, get the following tests run:
TSH [low hyper/high hypo - newly accepted normal range 0.35-3 with the optimum between 1-2]
FT3 [High tends to indicate hyper/ low tends to indicate hypothyroid]
FT4 [High tends to indicate hyper/ low tends to indicate hypothyroid]
T3 Uptake [determines effectiveness of T3 to T4 conversion]
    TPOAb [positive = Hashimoto's]
    TGAb [positive = Hashimoto's]
    TSI [positive = Graves]
    TRAb [positive = Graves]
If you have Graves and Hashi's it is known as Hashitoxicosis. Then there are many other flavors of hyper and hypothyroid issues. The labs use this as standard terminology and will know what they mean. Good luck searching for answers.

I checked with all the other expertes before lookign at my thyroid as a culprit.. because my MDs said I was too young. Humm.. well guess my thyroid thought differently.

    Sincerely,
    MG

Re: Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

Hi Sannah and MKG! Sannah-- I believe in leaky gut syndrome, too, and believe me I know that the doctors are poo-pooing the idea of it right now. I believe that there are so many antibiotics in the foods we eat, no wonder most of us have it!! For MKG, I've had more TSH, T3, T4 and antibody tests that you can shake a stick at and they are all supposedly normal(antibody test was off last Jan.), although I think my T4 @ 0.7 is low, but they day it's fine. The endo is checking a cortisol test I had last year to see if there might possibly be a connection. It was (I feel) on the low side, 2.10 but bounced back to 9.80 in a month, so who knows? I'd like to win one just once and have the thyroid and cortisol both be low at the same time. Everyone says to me,"You know you have to lose weight". No kiddin'!!! I keep telling people that I'm not going to bother changing a thing right now because A) I've just about starved myself and still can't lose weight. B) Have exercised and walked and still can't lose weight, and C) I stopped smoking so I'm not psychologically ready to start a major diet right now. IF I FELT BETTER AND WASN'T COVERED IN HIVES I COULD GO ON LIVING, TOO but I guess that's not to be right now. So much for people... The allergist checked me for every fungal sensitivity that there is and I'm clear. Thank God he has an open mind and will test all kinds of stuff. I guess I will persevere in my quest for answers on this hivey thing that has become my life partner and hope my prayers will be answered soon. Thanks so much & God bless--Hopeto

Hey Hope, only alternative docs can cure leaky gut. Are you interested in going this route? After my daughter's leaky gut got cured she got really skinny.

Re: Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

How do alternitive Dr cure leaky gut?

I have chronic hives. Aso other things with the mast cell.
I am allergic to everything. There is not much I can eat, touch, smell, ect...
I am allergic to every antibiotic now and benedryl as well as all nsaids and pain relievers.

    I am taking

    Prednisone (steriod)
    Plaquenil (malaria Drug)
Zantac (stomach med extreemly high dosages 600+ mg a day)
    Nasonex (steriod nasal spray)
    Singulair (asthma-allergy med)
    proventil (inhailer)

These drugs are all used to stop the mast cells in my body from reacting to things (autoimmune)

Have you trried any of these meds?

Sorry, I am new on here and just saw you post. Do you see an immunologist? Do you know what brings on your hives or is it like mine, just chronic?

    Kristin

Re: Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

Hi Kristin--The allergy docs ususally rotate my meds after a bit because either I suffer the serious side effects(I hate dry nose and mouth) or they poop out. They are Claritin, Nasonex, Zyrtec--I have to say right now it's Zyrtec 1X a day. The Nasonex helps me for about 3 or 4 days and then I have to stop--I hate the feeling steroids give me. My system is very sensitive to meds and right now I am suffering with fibromyalgia and want to stop Risperdal (for anxiety) because it's making my muscles stiff. Today is a very depressing day because I'd like to just get up some morning and say,"Hey! I'm not feeling too bad today". I don't think that is ever going to be. I will let you know what the next chapter is. I even find antidepressants poop out lately on me, too. I will check with the pdoc and other fibro specialists to see if they have new things to try. God bless and take care--Hopeto--

Re: Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

    Hope,

Please do not loose hope. I have been suffering for 22 years. It sucks at times for sure.

Has your Dr ever tried you on plaquenil? It is used to treat lupus, RA and other autoimmune diseases. It is a life saver!!! I know you said you don't like the way steroids make you feel, but were you ever placed on a very, very low dose, like 5 mg a day? If used at low dosages along with plaquenil, it helps like nothing else!

I also have FM, ost likely Lupus too, even though the tests come back negative everytime. I know I have an underlying disease called mast cell disease. Here is alink to the symptoms, treatments ect.. ( I hope I can post this here)
    [url]http://www.tmsforacure.org/patientinfo.shtml[/url]

Mast cell disease is what causes underlying illnesses and diseases like autoimmune. They also cause hives, allergies ect...

If your allergist is an immunologist and your symptoms fit the list, talk to her/him about it. There is no cure, but lots of treatment.

Hi Fours, I have answered this question many times here. Our alternative doc cured my daughter with a few therapies. I don't want to explain them again unless someone is really interested in following this route with an alternative doc. I will help you Advance Search my posts on this if you are really interested.

I was really interested and did a search on [email protected] for treatment of leaky gut. Sorry, I guess I should have said that in a later reply.

Did your daughter basically do a cleanse and then probiotic treatment with some supplements? Watching what she ate? If so, I already tried it. Sigh, wish there was something that worked for me. So far the meds I am taking are working. I would really much rather have a cure...

    Thanks for replying, Kristin

Re: Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

Hi Sannah & Fours--I looked into dealing with things alternatively and each office I called said insurance doesn't cover the visits and it's $150 per visit. I'm on disability and fixed income and it's next to impossible. The allergists I see are pretty good and pretty flexible about running tests all the time. I get to see my allergist on 9/13 and will ask about leaky gut. Incidentally, I was tested for every fungus that can be tested and it was negative as well as H Pylori. Thank God for small favors. I know that I have bowel issues right now that are painful and I keep thinking this is Nature's way of telling the body that there is infection and poison there. I will also see my gp on Wednesday who will help me deal with this bowel thing until October when the gastro doc takes over. God bless you folks and thanks so much for your thoughts--Hopeto

Re: Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

Hey Kristin, we have an amazing alternative doc who got a lot of his training in Europe. My daughter never did any cleansing. With the leaky gut it seems that your health impedes you from maintaining correct normal flora. Our doc improved my daughter's health so that then she was able to maintain the correct normal flora. She had a stool examination done and she had no good normal flora and a lot of bad. This doc does treatment looking at your energy fields. If you have psychological or health issues that are interfering with your energy fields then you will be in bad health. The most helpful treatment that she received was PsychoSomatic Energenics. He tested her for psychological issues that then blocked the flow of energy through her body. The first issue that came up for her was that she felt weak and powerless. OMG, was that her! After she took some homeopathic drops for a few months she was no longer letting her sister push her around and she was resisting me for the first time in her life. She has had 3 other tests since and each one nailed her issues well and then resolved them with the drops. Other treatments - rectal ozone (ozone sterilizes, hoping to kill the bad bacteria in her gut), some other chinese herbs to kill these bacteria also, accupressure (let me know if you want more info on this, I have to look up the exact terms), and abdominal massage (from our excellent massage therapist).

Feel free to ask any other questions.

Re: Once again, let's hear it from the hives!!

Hey Hope, yes, alternative treatments do come out of your pocket. Our insurance did pay for the office visits however because he is a doc. This treatment can be life changing. We were lucky that we could afford this treatment for my daughter but I would have done anything to get the money for her treatment if we had not had it.

From all of my research into my daughter's illness I came to understand that when you have all of this immune system dysfunction (which is what allergies are) that they can lead to autoimmune diseases which is what fibromyalgia is. When I was still searching for help for my daughter I was looking down the road expecting her to go on to develop autoimmune diseases. The LDA shots that my daughter and I got, the claim is that they work for autoimmune diseases too. Everything that I was told/read about these shots has come true for us..... If you could get your health back then you could work again?

Researchers are just starting to understand the importance of normal flora. I wish they would hurry. Mark my words, in a few decades MANY diseases are going to be traced back to the health of our guts (this is where our immune cells are).
