How do I remove pet allergens from appartment?

I moved into an appartment and the previous owners had a pet. I would like to know the best way to remove old pet allergens lying around. I sprayed the carpet with lysol once and I left the windows open for a while to air the place out. However, I still think there are some allergens lying around. Is there a spray I can by that kills pet allergens (can you kill them, aren't they just dander?) What would you suggest to make my apartment more livable for me?
