Allergic to the Smell of Coffee

Does anyone else have this allergy? I have no idea what it is in the coffee I am allergic to but if someone comes near me with a cup of coffee I get congested, runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, tight itchy throat, and headache. It my allergies in general are more reactive at that time then the reaction to coffee is worse. Today I was at an early morning meeting and 5 of the 8 people brought coffee. I had to leave the meeting twice and throughout I was a sniffling, nose blowing, sneezing mess.

I also hate the taste of coffee and always have. I have never even sipped a sip and if I bite into something that is coffee or mocha flavored I spit it out - it is like my body rejects it.

Anyone know what is in coffee that could be the cause of the reaction? Can you be allergic to a coffee bean?

Re: Allergic to the Smell of Coffee

You could be allergic to trace amounts in the odors of the coffee proteins, or trace amounts in the odors of the pesticides used in growing the coffee, or trace amounts in the odors of the chemicals found in coffee, like caffeine.

You could consider experimenting with brewing organic coffee, or organic decaf coffee, or regular decaf coffee, and test your allergies to the odors of all three of these coffees.
⇒ Avoid unhealthy chemicals,odors,irritants
⇒ 6 low cal meals 1500 cals; weights
⇒ 6.25 coreg;.125 digoxin
⇒ 2002 BP was 151/96; readings:1,423
⇒ From 2008-2017 BP was 119/69; readings:7,514

Re: Allergic to the Smell of Coffee

That's awful about your allergy to coffee. I'm not allergic to it, but have never liked the smell or taste of it. It also feels like battery acid going down my throat and then upsetting my stomach. My husband drinks coffee every waking moment so I get to smell it on a regular basis. That's a good idea to try organic and/or decaf coffee to see your reaction to them. Good luck.

Re: Allergic to the Smell of Coffee

If I walk into a room where there is coffee I start coughing, clearing my throat, & sweating. I think I had the same response with organic. I believe it is mold.
