Allergies and sinuses

Hello all,

im new here so nice to meet everyone!

I have been suffering from airborn allergies for many years. Most of the time my eyes are red, i get bad sinus headaches, and sever congestion at times.

So far, my regiment is to take OTC drugs in the morning and night. This consists of different combinations of Ibuprofen (anti inflammatory), claritin, Zyrtec, Allerga, Benadryl, Sudafed, eye drops, etc. Then i use a netti pot every night to rinse my sinuses, and a hot steamy bath and vaporub after to clear up passages.

Recently, these tactics are not working for me. I still get very congested as the day goes on. Theres not a ton of mucus so maybe its swelling. But i cant breathe regardless and the headaches come.

The only thing that seems to be affective in clearing up my sinuses is Vicks Sinex. After spraying, i am breathing again within 30 min and it lasts a long time. However, your are not supposed to use this for more than 3 days.

What am I to do? I am not sure what exactly im allergic to. Probably grass, pollen, dusk, etc. My doctor has not tested me and just told me to take claritin. :-\

Can anyone else lend a hand? I really appreciate it.

Re: Allergies and sinuses

Well, if you don't want to get tested and do injections, then maybe a steroid nasal spray would help. You could talk with your allergist about which one - Nasonex is popular.

Definitely, I think it's time to ask for a referral to a real allergist, get skin scratch testing. Then consider allergy shots.
