Lightbulb If Allergic to Peanuts, Should I not eat any nuts

My son is 8. One day he broke out in hives very bad. I took him to the doctor. He is allergic to peanuts. Pecans and pistachios are his favorite.... Should I keep him away from all nuts?

Not unless testing says so. Peanuts are ground nuts. Pistachios and almonds and pecans and walnuts are tree nuts. Two different things. What did his doctor say? have you had allergy testing for all nuts?

I'm from a small town and the doctor was a local. He did refer me to a specialist, which is scheduled for next week. Hopefully no more allergies.

You will have to see what the doctor says, but there is hope. For instance, I am severely allergic to peanuts ( in fact, I ate a vanilla cupcake that had peanut butter in it tonight and had to use my epi-pen and go to the ER and get an I'V of Benadryl and some steroids), but one of my favorite foods is cocoa covered almonds and I am absolutely fine and tested negative for them. I hope your son will test negative for the foods he likes, too. And make sure to get an epi-pen from the doctor. it's very important to make sure that you and he both know how to use it. Hope this helps.

Peanuts are a ground nut. Almonds, pecans, walnuts are tree nuts thus why you can eat one and not the other.
