Red face Urgent!! Please help me diagnose this horrid rash, none of my doctors can!!

    Ok,
So, I've had a lot of trouble over the past many months with a horrible rash that seems to have spread all over my body. This is what has happened to me, so please read and tell me what you think it is, and if I'm doing the right thing to treat it.

First of all, a few years back, I developed this really, horrible rash on the tops of my feet. I was working at a camp that summer, and just figured that I had either developed athlete's foot or eczema (I'm prone to eczema, anywya, but only really got it occasionally behind my knees and elbows). Well, I went to a dermatologist, and she told me that is was eczema, gave me a prescrip...and everything was hunky dory for over a year and a half.

Starting last November-ish, the skin on the tops of my feet got really bad again, with a red, raised, itchy rashed that just seemed to get worse and worse over the months. I also noticed a couple of small patches of red skin on my cheeks. I thought both the skin on my face and feet were due to the extremely cold winters we get where I live, and the skin on my face cleared up again, although it stayed EXTREMELEY DRY from that point onwards (the skin on my face has always been oily-ish). So, I used lots of cream on my body and face everyday and didn't think about it too much. My bf and I went to Jamaica in March, and the my skin was so wonderful and even rash on my feet cleared up dramatically after going into a mineral/salt water spa place for an hour. I though that was the solution!

Well, we got back home, and of course, it was still extremely cold and dry here, so my skin conditions came back and so i just kept on using a lot of cream, and figuring that the VERY dry skin on my face was due to weather and, perhaps me getting a little older (late 20's)?? I was really looking forward to summer, because it is more humid and thought my skin would clear up again.

Anyway, that time has not come. Since then, my skin has gotten 200% worse. The rash on my feet still persists, but doesn't cover as large of an area. I also have ring like patches of rashes that have popped up all over my legs and some on my stomach and arms. The skin on my face is dreadful...it is also sooooo DRY, red, and itchy. When I step out of the shower in the morning, my face INSTANTLY gets warm, red, and itchy...and very dry. I slather heavy cream on it immediately after getting out of the shower, and 10 minutes later...BOOM....dry, flushed, warm, red, crackly, itchy. The skin on my feet and rest of body is the same, although sometime the itchiness and raised-portion of the rash goes down, and then flares right back up again. Recently, my eyelids have started to become red, tight, and itchy. I notice the itchiest part of my face is around my jawline on both sides of my face, but the flushed part is everwhere on my cheeks. Nothing seems to help. I've seen about 3 different doctors, and a dermatologist about this. I've been tested for lupus, and run other blood tests, but nothing...the doc has done patch testing...nothing, although I do go back to see her in a few weeks, am going out of my mind with the constant itchiness and redness all over my body. I've changed soaps, detergents, you name it...to no avail.

Short of ripping off my own skin, I'm desperate. I've been taking an Omega 3-6-9 supplement for about a month and a half, now...with minor results. I've tried Oil of Oregano, with minor results. Of course, this is on top of the several creams and lotions that have been prescribed to me.

I've been hearing a lot about liver cleanses via diet, and have started one...today. I'm cutting out meat (I already don't eat meat), dairy, refined sugars....eating lots of organic veggies some fruits, nuts, cold pressed oils, fish, omega 3-6-9's, whole grains only like brown rice, etc....

However, does ANYONE, ANYONE at all have an idea of what this could be (I've thought of everything from lupus, to yeast overgrowth, to a faulty liver, to deficiencies..you name it). Do these symptoms sound familiar to ANYONE at all. I am so desperate. And, does the diet i suggested have any chance of working?

    PLEASE HELP!

PS-I have Celiac Disease, but avoid ALL forms of gluten, i am quite strict about this, so I am almost certain it is not Dermatitis Herpetiformis,as I have had that before I was diagnosed and what I have now is MUCH different.

It could be an allergy to something, probably a food since you seem to have it in different environments. In the book Doctor Youself, Andrew Saul tells of a man with eczema who was helped by going on a juice fast and some other dietary changes. Maybe that would help, that's sort of along the lines of what you are doing right now anyway, I think you are on the right track. You might want to try to get ahold of the book and read that part. You might also want to try a full compliment of vitamins, plus a B-50 capsule every day and maybe extra niacin and C. C has anti-inflammatory effects.

You may have also developed an allergy to your laundry detergent, shampoo, soap, hair dye etc. You might try swapping them for a different brand.

I am not a doctor but sounds like yeast issue cut the sugar out of diet and look into zinc supplements (not daily) and apply sulfur soap topically when showering and get a uv light but protect your eyes. Good health.

    Stay away from:
Wheat (you do anyway I know!)
    Yeast
    Refined Sugar
    Dairy
    Sugar free and diet foods.

Drink plenty of bottled water to flush out toxins.
Take a good multi vit and mineral (solgar or Biocare)

Check you haven't go the bacteria strep apparantly that can linger and can cause rashes.
    Meat shouldn't cause a prob.

    Hi cricketchicket -

Well this is not the most appealing diagnosis but has anyone tested you for ringworm? I don't know that it could go dormant and come back - I would do some research...but the fact that you said it is a round like rash and it is appearing on your tummy as well as your legs.

The fact that it started at camp too would point to this. You can get it from being in the dirt barefoot etc... I think... I am not the expert on this but I think the pattern of the rash could be indicative of this.

Good luck I hope it gets better real soon!

It definitely sounds like some type of hives, urticaria of sort. From what, who knows. I recently also developed hives, a mild case, itchy as all heck, was due to a medication, topomax (right after I progressed to 75mgs). Three days after stopping the medication, all hives were gone. So, any new medications on your list?

It sounds like psoriasis to me and if that is the case, there are quite a few very new and highly effective treatments that can allow you to live a perfectly normal and happy life.

I agree, I've had psoriasis (actually psoriatic arthritis) for 10 years, since I was 15. Find a good dermatologist and try the many options available. It may take a few months to years to find what works for you, but it's worth the effort. I finally found something that cleared mine up completely but I would not be able to have kids for 3 years after getting off of it (soriatane) so since I recently got engaged, I decided to stop the meds. Psoriasis is back again, but I'm dealing.

Look up psoriasis online and try to compare your rash to the psoriasis pics (there are different types). Good luck.

I can understand exactly where you are coming from. I have suffered from a terrible rash type thing also , was diagnosed as urticaria, but despite the endless creams I seemed to get from doctors, pharmacies, it still reoccurred, but however have found a fabulous natural treatment for it and have never had problem since. I guess its just trying to find the right treatment for each individual, I suppose some things may work for others and some not, but in my experience I am so relieved, especially in summer time when it seemed worse.

I went through that too but mine was during BOTH my pregnancies! It was ecezma but my hormone levels changed so much it did a doosie on me much like you describe.
You may want to check into your hormones, and relocating to that hot spot of yours!

I worked with a lady a few years back that had this same condition. She had a rash all over her body that formed sores and pustules. Nothing that was given her cleared up the condition, it only contined to get worse. She became very desperate, going to many doctors. One doctor took her situation very seriously and said he would find a solution. He eventually contacted the Center for infectious diseases. Through a lot of research it was determined that she had gotten a germ or bacteria that grows in loofa sponges or any other kind of sponge that is kept in the shower.
They recommeded a treatment and her skin problem was cleared up completely. She said that she would never again keep a loofa or any other sponge in her shower and neither will I.
