I would start at the lowest effective dose for you, and increase it gradually as needed. Usually 50 mg to start is sufficient.

Re: l-tryptophan how much to take
My Dr. says 1 pill at night should be enough at first, then every other night.
Thank you,

Re: l-tryptophan how much to take
Dosage indication is 500 mg. 3x day. Or 3 500 mg. capsules at bedtime.
However start with 1 500 mg. capsule a day and see how you feel.

Re: l-tryptophan how much to take
Many years ago they pulled L-tryph off the market - anybody remember that and why they did? I used it a million years ago and it made me sleep like a baby but then they pulled it off the market - this was way back in the late 70's and havent seen it or heard much about it until recently.

It was pulled off the US market after the tragedy of contaminated L-Tryptophan brought on by Showa Denko K.K. in 1989. They were a Japanese company that manufactured a contaminated batch of it and shipped it to the US. People died or became very sick and the US banned it for several yrs. However, L-Tryptophan was deemed safe and the sickness was traced to the bad batch. Yrs. later it was back on the market and still is today. Many people swear by it!
