Looking for an alternative to Chamomile tea

I asked this question on other boards and I'm still in search of an alternative to this herb. I love chamomile as it is very calming for me. I find, however, that after drinking only one cup over the course of many days (about a week or more) I start to have some spotting and cramping. I have read so many contradictory things about Chamomile where some say it is great for irregularity and others where it can induce menstruation. I would like to continue with this but can't if this keeps happening. I'm thinking to cut the steep time so as to lesson the dose or try and find another tea that does the same thing but without this side effect. I have tried Passion flower which does not have the same calming effect for me as Chamomile. I would prefer a tea over any kind of oral supplement. I was wondering if anyone could advise as to something that would work as well as Chamomile? I would like it to calm the central nervous system as well as be an antispasmodic because I have RLS and it helps that too. Something GERD friendly is also good!
Thank you for any help!

Re: Looking for an alternative to Chamomile tea

Since you are looking for a tea, rather than supplements, I would suggest Valarian Root tea. Valarian also comes in supplemental form and is very good (as a tea or supplement) for calming the nervous system. Other suggestions for teas you might try: Rooibos, catnip and lavender.

Re: Looking for an alternative to Chamomile tea

I think any caffeine free tea would be fine. Caffeine is the destructive thing, it affects the nervous system far more than most people realise. I just drink Tetley de-caff tea and it has all the flavour I need without any negative aspect.
