    Advice needed on CT result

My Mum recently had a CT scan on her head, after she was recently told she had an arterial embolism behind one of her eyes, in a routine diabetic check up.

She has been getting really bad pains in the side of her head now, for nearly a year, she also has issues with her memory and sometimes writes the wrong words down, with the memory side of things, we haven't been overly worried about it, but have noticed it. She showed me a copy of her CT report and it states bilateral frontal and parietal lobe atrophy... Her GP is saying there is nothing to worry about, and thinks she should just wait and see what happens?
From what I have read, I am worried it is the onset of Alzheimers. All I want is to make sure she gets the treatment/advice she needs, I don't really feel happy for her to sit and wait to see what happens.. But at the same time, don't want to push things too much on her behalf if there is no need to.

I just wondered if anyone could give some advice really.

    Dear teddybearhugs,

Can you get her in to a specialist of some kind? I would find her an aging specialist and not wait for her GP to 'worry'.

Lobe atrophy is normal as we age...all of us will have some signs of brain atrophy on our CT scans. This is why your doctor isn't concerned about her CT scan; however, if she is showing signs of forgetfulness or blanking out, it may be time to have her accessed by a dementia team. Ask her doctor if they have a dementia doctor who can give her some tests. Honestly though- atrophy is normal as we age.
