Worried about dementia

I will try to make this brief;
I had been a Crack user/alcoholic for about 20 years. I am 51 years old. I've been clean and sober for 4 months now. I also had a head injury over two years ago
I started having symptoms back in july (reason I got clean)light headedness/dizziness; I thought at first it might be ms.
I recently had a brain MRI done, doc said everything looks fine, however he said my brain has shrunk a little.
I will be seeing a neurologist pretty soon. Yes I have been worried, stressed and scared about developing dementia down the road, I do have a hard time remembering words and names sometimes and one time I got off the bus coming from the hospital and forgot where I was at for a second, that really scared me.
So please tell me; does this sound normal? I have been clean and watching my diet, going GF (I am also Celiac)eating whole grains, leafy vegs and fruits daily, fish, etc. Is there anyway this could be reversed or prevented? Is it a little too late?
Please inform me, thank you

Re: Worried about dementia

There is nothing to worried about since such situations are normal but yes my recommendation would be to please get checked by a neurologist since alcohol does have an effect on the brain. My father faced a similar situation and we were worried he might have dementia but we later found out due to wrong medication it caused him to forget certain information so medication can also be a reason.
