    Question on Alzheimer

Hello there. Any advice welcomed. My 76 year old mum has gradually gone down hill with her memory and actions for the past year. She WILL NOT see ANY DOCTOR about this and blames her age. She is constantly getting lost when driving, even to places she has been a million times. She keeps forgetting certain family members have passed away even though she was at their funerals. She is very jittery as well. She gets VERY aggressive when questioned about this. She will actually storm out of our houses etc. We do not know how to handle this as we want to help her, but she says it is old age and nothing to worry about. My mum's boyfriend actually phoned me when I was on holiday to tell me he was worried as she kept asking him the same questions over and over the entire weekend. She does not have a UTI as she did go for that test as she felt under the weather. Any advice welcomed.

Has her diet changed? For instance is she eating more processed or frozen foods?

    Re: Question on Alzheimer

Hi ya. No, she eats very little in the first place, but loads of fruits and veg. That is nothing new though as she has always been a light eater when we were kids. We just really want her to get checked out but she refuses. She is getting lost a lot when driving (even 3 miles down the road) that really concerns us the most.

    Re: Question on Alzheimer

Your mom needs a proper evaluation and full blood work-up and a scan of her head. It's possible she is deficient in vitamins B12 and D.
Have a heart to heart with her and inform her that 76 really isn't that old. She shouldn't be driving if her mind isn't sound...and just FYI, that response is classic of dementia. She might be afraid of the answers and being isolated and abandoned by her family.

Please keep us updated on where you go from here.
