I must say wow. What you are going through and continue to go through brings me hope knowing what is next to come with me. Everyone is different and so are our stories but yours seems to continue when everyone said it would be to hard to or near impossible to. And It must have been beyond hard to keep yourself motivated and the fact that you still had kids and finished school when all odds were against you brings a smile to my face. Only because you give me hope, hope to continue cause you never know who is out there that can help by just sharing their story. You amaze me Aya, and I look forward from hearing more about your story in this life.

I went to the doctors yesterday, my specialist from my last operation. At least he has a good bedside manner. I have managed to break the steel rod in my Right leg. Yay me.

They are going to find out if it is nerve pain and go from there.

    Aya,

Omg, so what does that mean? Do you have to go in a get it removed and get something else in there to replace it? Or a whole new ankle fusion?

I have the injections and hope it helps with the pain. If it does then we look at options. We will have to balance time off work, my family, recovery time etc figure out what option is best. At least there may be some relief from the pain for the moment. I will keep updating. How are you going? Any relief for you yet?

    Re: Ankle fusion or amputation?

First lot of injections have been done into the area below the Tibia in a space. So far so good. My daughter watched me while I had a nap and said that my legs didn't jerk at all. Tonight will be an indication. My first night with no painkillers for I can't remember how long.

I am still thinking amputation is for me. My body doesn't like to have metal in it.

After 2 injections into each ankle I am temporarily pain free. Back to doctors in 6 weeks.

    Hey Aya,

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner, but it sounds like you got some help with your ankle for the time being. I hope it is still working out for you and you are able to get around easier. That is what is most important to me.

Recently I found out from my doctor that I have to get my ankle fused, Im scared but if it will relieve me from my pain I will do it. Hopefully it will be a good choice but only time will tell. Do hope to hear from you soon. Have a great weekend

    Alexandria24,
Having an ankle fusion works wonders for most people. My body just doesn't like having metal in it. When is this going to happen? It will be painful after the operation for you but the relief will happen soon after. Best of luck for this keep me posted. Oh and get some MBT shoes after, a good podiatrist for your shoes and get into phisio asap after the operation. The weight bearing stage has reduced so much and they have advanced so much since my first. Again Good luck to you.

    Re: Ankle fusion or amputation?

    Aya,

My surgery is going to be the first week of August so I'm still pretty nervous about it. Not to sure how I am going to afford it, let along support myself while I'm in a boot. I have heard about those shoes and I've already looked in to getting some. So hopefully those will help, because I don't want to walk with a limp.
How are you doing though? Are those shots still helping? Sure hope so. Thanks again for your advise as I will be taking every day just one step at a time till I'm healed finally.

    Re: Ankle fusion or amputation?

My friend is only 27 and just had an ankle replacement. She has been dealing with it for about 4 years, since she broke her ankle is multiple places and ruined the cartilage in the process. They finally decided to replace her ankle rather than fuse it because she was so young and for fear she would have back problems later in life. She is good as new almost now. She has been limping around for years and has had multiple surgeries on her ankle to no avail. After her ankle replacement, she can do almost anything besides run because of the wear and tear on the prosthetic. I know she was the youngest patient he had ever done one on and she will have to have it replaced, who knows how many times in her lifetime, but she is good now...

    Re: Ankle fusion or amputation?

    Dear Elizabeth,

That is wonderful news to hear about your friend Ashley. Was she scared to get it replaced or mostly just excited to get rid of the pain? My surgery is in about a week and my recovery will be long, but it will help me overall with becoming happier. I hope Ashley feels good about her choice and if she ever needs anyone to talk to, Im always here
