Criteria for iron infusions??

Does anyone know what the criteria is to be able to receive iron infusions?

The doc I saw only told me ferritin below 10 and iron sat below 20%. But is there more to it than that?

My ferritin would qualify, but my iron sat does not. Yet I'm having lots of anemia symptoms.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Criteria for iron infusions??

For me, it was failing an iron saturation test (3-5%), which meant that oral iron was not helping. Infusions were the next step.

If you are absorbing 20% of the iron you ingest, that is the preferred way to get iron into your system.

My iron is 5 as is my saturation and ferritin is 7 do I qualify? I also haven't been able to tolerate the 3 strong iron tablets my Dr prescribed .
