Unhappy Anemia and Iron Infusion a year ago

Hey all. Last year I was feeling really tired all the time and the doc figured out I was anemic. I went to a hematologist who did two iron infusions in probably October or September last year. My question is that right NOW I have a high reticulocyte count, high platelets, high WBC, high ferritin. And some other tests are a bit off too. Could the iron infusion from a YEAR ago cause my ferritin and reticulocytes to be high now? Or do I now have another issue to deal with? I have been very fatigued lately, with some tachycardia and other issues. I feel pretty terrible.

I would bet this is a new problem. A high retic count usually means you are breaking doen red blood cells too fast. This usually occurs as a result of antibodies attacking the RBC, so you need a Coombs test to check for hemolytic anemia. The iron infusions should not affect your platelets, and I doubt your ferritin would still be high from a year ago, unless last year's anemia was not iron deficiency anemia to begin with. I would go back to the hematologist for reevaluation, and ask for some autoimmune testing related to the blood test findings.

Thank you so much for the thoughtful reply. I see my pcp tomorrow and will ask some questions based on what you wrote. May go back to the hematologist after I see the PcP. Thanks again!

The PCP wants me to go back to the Hematologist, I have an appointment for this Thursday. I hope he figures something out. I am so tired all the time I can't stand it.
