Between a rock and a hard place ...

I've been taking iron supplements (65 mg) for anemia as well as a prescription vitamin D (10,000 IU once a week). Last Thursday I stopped taking the iron supplement b/c I couldn't stand the side effects.

I've noticed recently more pronounced symptoms of anemia, and I'm not sure if its because I've stopped the supplements. If I take the iron again I'm sure the side effects will start up and if I don't the anemia symptoms will get worse. Is there a way to take iron without the side effects?

Have you had your B12 level checked? I'm anemic because I can't absorb it. I have to take monthly shots to keep my levels up.

I'm surprised you would quit iron supplements. To me, the anemia has far worse consequences -- exhaustion, lightheaded, etc. What are the side effects you get from taking iron supplements? Have you talked to your doctor about it?

There are other ways to increase the amount of iron in your blood. An IV for example. But that is typically used only for extreme cases of anemia.

Yeah they did a complete workup, My Folic A & B12-Vitamin B12 was at 727 and my Folic A & B12-Folate (Folic Acid) was at 11.3.

Yeah at the time the anemia symptoms weren't that bad, the worse symptoms were the iron side effects. Also there were some symptoms that I wasn't sure was caused by anemia or the iron. I haven't talked to my Dr about it, I hate having to constantly go back. I was thinking if I took less iron with food or ate a lot of iron rich food that may help.
