    Illness affecting Iron levels?

I've been dealing with Anemia for over a year, and recently I stopped taking Ferralet in March. I remember having symptoms shortly after taking Ferralet but for a while I never had any symptoms that I can remember.

Then in May/ June I got a cold, then bronchitis. Then last week I started feeling weak which I attributed to the heat (it was in the 100's where I live), then on Sunday I got Bronchitis again. I went to Patient First and they did a series of tests and I noticed my levels have dropped to before what they were last year.

I've also had more symptoms recently like I've been feeling weak and light-headed. Can an illness cause iron levels to drop?

I understand that some illnesses and especially those that cause internal bleeding can cause it. Also medications like proton pump inhibitors are well known as causing it. Anything that keeps you from absorbing iron is a factor.
