    Mysterious bruises

I woke up this morning with two odd bruises, one on my chin and on my collarbone. They were definitely not there last night when I went to bed, and nothing that I can remember happened between now and then. They have an odd appearance, sort of like "hickeys" (sorry to be crass) with the small broken blood vessels, but there isn't any possibility that it could be that, either. I was just wondering if this could be a symptom of anemia (I am pale skinned and just finished my period) or if it could be something even more serious.

    Re: Mysterious bruises

Probably not anemia, but the odd bruises and red marks (like pinpoints or a red rash) could be a sign of low platelets. Low platelets could be caused by a virus, infection or could be an autoimmune disorder. The only way to know for sure is to go to a dr and get a CBC test. Complete Blood Count.

Have you been sick lately? Or fatigued?

I have ITP, Immune Thrombocytopenia, which means sometimes my body attacks my platelets, leaving me with a low count, which means I bruise easily and get petichea, a red dot kind of rash. Unless my count goes very low and stays there, we usually just watch and wait.

If it doesn't resolve, this bruising, I'd go to a dr. It's probably no reason to panic, but it wouldn't hurt to get a blood test done.
