    Procrit-Hurry-Should I request autopsy?

My husband had lung cancer. He was okay after chemo except for dehydration

Spent 2 days in hospital on IV fluids and felt 100% better.Much more energy.

Why did they give him 40,000 units of Procrit 30 minutes before releasing him?

He bled to death at home 5 hours later.

When entering hospital his RBC was 13.5.

After RE hydration, his RBC was 9.5

They said that was because when he was DE hydrated, his RBC was concentrated and gave a false reading.

Of course as soon as the RBC goes below 10.0,the insurance company pays for Procrit. He didn't need it and now he is DEAD

Medically, I don't know why they did what they did.

But I wanted to extend my deepest sympathy to you. Such a sad way to lose someone dear to you.

Personally, I think an autopsy should be done if there any suspicion surrounding a death. I can't believe that this would not be automatic even though he was suffering from lung cancer.

My heart goes out to you and I'm so sorry for your loss and that you had to go through this.

I totally agree with Christine, I would definately be asking for an autopsy. I cant comment as to why they did what they did, but you need some answers and fast!

Deepest sympathy to you and your family.
    God bless,
    Linds

    Re: Procrit-Hurry-Should I request autopsy?

My mother died in August 2007 after receiving procrit. The drug is VERY dangerous and should be taken off the market. We later discovered the doctor was receiving over $1,800.00 for each injection. She was receiving the injections weekly. I have met numerous others who have had family members die after receiving procrit injections.
