I don't think that there is anything you can do. There is risk of leakage of iron prep. that can cause permanent skin tattooing. I hope that they discussed this with you prior to treatment. It may fade over time, I have read that people have had this for at least 3 years. There is a correct way to give these injections to lesson the S/E such as a tattoo. I would go to the doctor that gave the injectiona and discuss this further about the pain associated. FLFLOWERGIRL

FLFLOWERGIRL is right, there is a correct procedure when it comes to giving iron injections. Did your doctor discuss the possibility of tattoos, did he give you any literature about these injections?

I had 5 iron injections (one per week) for 5weeks. My doctor prided himself on not leaving tattoos. Any injection marks were either not visible even on the day of the injection or gone by the next day. I would say whoever is giving you these injections is not doing it correctly.

After the agony of my 5 injections, i was to find out that it only brought my ferretin up from 29 to 35. Such a tiny amount!! I couldn't believe it and was nearly in tears. My specialist informed me that they have since found out that iron injections give a false high, meaning they make you feel fantastic for a while, then once you stop taking them your ferretin plumets down again. I felt on top of the world for about 3 or 4 weeks. Had never felt that fantastic. I was full of energy all the time, woke up feeling fresh and just wanted to jump out of bed and do exercises and couldnt wait to start my day. Boy did that all change once the iron settled back down!! Hopefully that wont be your situation, especially after you have had to go through the agony of the injections and the tattoo markings.

Has your doctor told you how long you will be getting these injections? 3 months is such a long time which made me wonder how long they planned on giving them to you.

Question Re: Iron injection bruises are not going away

Hi I cannot give any advice on the brusing or tattoo, I have had two doctors give me injections, both have trouble as where they inject me is very tight skin, inflammed due to a form of arthrtis.
They give them to me on the upper thigh or outside area of hip, um, hard to explain exactly where, but if you found the outer point of your pelvic, which one can by following groin crease, from there go down a inch or so.

I'm nit fussed about tattoo, 45yo male unlikley to be wearing any bikini any time soon,
But the tenderness is a concern, surley there must be some ointment or cream one could rub into muscle / tissue to get rid of brusing, I used to use something years ago when I played sport and got burised, I guess I will have to ask my Phamarcists and GP and Demratologist doesn't know.
Has anyone has infussion? How often would one need an infusion if they have been getting injections every 2 to 3 weeks and Ferrantine level has only got up to 80 after 12 months or so. It was a slow as 4.

I have Crohns, had 3 bowel resections, only Crohns left is where small bowel was rejoined @ the Illium. Yet I have no outward signs of any bleeding, nerver have in 18 years with Crohns. So we are all confused why Irons stores and Ferrantine levels got so low and you'll all love this, a year or so before low Iron was detected by two seperate path companies, I was found to have high iron ( Heamachrmotois) and had to have blood taken out, and again two differnt blood tests by different labs found this and also found I have the Geamachrmotosis gene.

    Confused, yeah I am!!
Gastro and gp's cannot not say why this happeed, should I be seeing a Doctor that speclaisings in the blood, is that a Heamatologist?
