I used to get heavy periods (until I had surgery) and I was always anemic. Doctors shrugged at me, too, or gave me iron pills that didn't work. Until one of them ordered me a blood test. She wasn't even an OB-Gyn. It turned out I had acute renal failure!

Take your low ferritin seriously, even if your doctors do not. You might try finding another doctor, if you can. You're not supposed to live your life feeling tired all the time. If you do buy an iron supplement, find one that's in "food form" or a liquid greens supplement. Those cheap little pills from the supermarket don't work.

Arggg - are you doing well with iron/ferritin now that you don't have heavy periods anymore?

Absolutely! Finally, I am doing this. Taking things seriously, and getting a new doctor (see her next week). I will seriously shop around and see doctor after doctor until someone takes me seriously.

I have a good iron supp I think - recommended by my naturopath.
