    anemic or not?

hi everyone, glad i found this forum...

I am a 20yo lady and went for a health screen recently and these results came back in my mail box. i did some reading on the net but it seems like my hemoglobin level is still ok... but the MCV is kind of low?
there're highs (H) and lows (L) all over in the report and i am not sure what they mean altogether, would appreciate if anyone could tell me some stuff.

    thanks in advance!

    WBC 9.82 x10^3 cells/uL (H)
    RBC 5.28 x 10^6 cells/uL
    HGB 11.9 g/dL (L)
    HCT 36.3% (L)
    MCV 68.7 fL (L)
    MCH 22.4 pg (L)
    MCHC 32.7 g/dL
    RDW 17.3% (H)
    PLT 399 x10^3 cells/uL (H)

it says microcytes 3+, anisocytosis 1+

Cloey88--Anemic! When your H & H values fall below the range you are considered anemic and you are mildly/borderline anemic. You need to give ranges when you can.

microcytes 3+. This means small (micro) blood cells.

anisocytosis. Is a medical term (aniso) for different sizes of RBC's.

Your right, your MCV is very low , ranges for this are usually 80 at the bottom range.

    Take care. FLFG

    Re: anemic or not?

Hi guys.. I am diagnosed to have thalassemia and the doctor assured that having a slight anemia is part and parcel of it and he claims that nothing can be done about it.

i just had another full blood count a few days ago and it seems like my white cell is constantly on the high side.. just wondering if this is ok, as i do not have any infection.

    WBC 12.0 x 10^3 (normal 4-10)

Hope all of u are well!

Your overall HBC is to low. It should be a least 13 to 16. If you chew ice a lot, or you are tired look out. If left alone it could continue to decrease. If you feel dizzy at anytime you need to go to the doctor. Iron bought at local drug stores will not help. You need a nutrition supplement or a prescription from the doctor. I have been going through this for the last 4 yrs.
