    B12 levels

The normal range for B12 levels is 200-900 I believe but does anyone know what level you need to be to be considered anemic? Is it under 200? I have read that it can be under 500. Although my B12 isn't low, it keeps dropping and I want to keep an eye on it.

    Re: normal B12 level

My hema likes to see B12 levels at 800. She said she sees many patients who are symptomatic under 400. (Which is me, at 329, I was twitching and fatigued ).

The B12 level isnt in and of it self an indication of anemia - different people will develop anemia at different blood levels - most vegans have lower than average blood levels, but few of them progress to prank pernicious anemia.

If you are concerned, taking a 2000mcg sublingual B12 tablet every day can keep your levels topped up nice n high, and they arnt especialy expensive.

    Re: normal B12 level

True. Everybody's different. I wanted to bring up my case, because many drs wouldn't have looked at me with a level of 329.

For reference, at 329 for me personally, it drug my hemoglobin down to 9. I don't know that it was directly related, but it is interesting that if I went to another doctor and they saw a B12 level at 329, they would've said I was fine and shoved me out the door. But instead my dr gave me a B12 shot and a few weeks later, I was feeling better.

Now I take the B12 shots every 2 weeks and it keeps my levels at 800 or just under and my hemoglobin hovers around 12, which is good for me.

    Re: normal B12 level

Hi all, I hope I am posting this in the right place. So everywhere I read it says that B12 levels should be around 700-800. My last blood test showed my B12 to be 166, the range given was just >133. My doctor has not said anything about this. He just prescribed some iron for low ferritin. Sorry I am new to all of this, so I hope I don't sound too stupid. The doctor said my low ferritin is from heavy periods, can this also contribute to a low B12? I eat lots of meat, so I wouldn't expect it to be low. I am planning on calling the doctor to amend the requisition to test for B12 again, what other tests should be on there? Thanks once again.
