Iron Deficiency Anemia but still low MCV/MCH

    Hi,
I am new here. I have a number of health issues but I am totally confused now. I was Dx with iron deficiency anemia. I had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy, which came back normal. My doctor prescribed iron supplement however I could not tolerate it. So I was referred to a hematologist. I had 8 iron infusions. After my final infusion I saw the hematologist for a follow up. My HgB was alot higher than when we first started. I went from 9.11 to 11.9. My ferritin went from 4 to 122. But my MCV and my MCH has not gotten any better. So the doctor is so sure that I have thalassemia. He said that it would take 4-6 weeks to get the results back but my PCP got the results 5 days later. It all came back normal. So what could be going on? Do I have a leukemia or something???
