Iron infusions ordered

Well after all of the testing and my ferritin @ a 4....the hematologist is wanting to start iron iv infusions. I start on Monday and go once a week for 10 weeks. I then go envy 2 months after that.

I'm kind of getting scared/anxious about how it works?

How do you usually feel after the first one? The lady @ the front desk told me that most patients feel either sick or super dead tired and that I should bring a driver. So hubby asked his Lt for the day off.

Any common side effects?

When do you start to feel better or feel the effects of it all?

Re: Iron infusions ordered

Hi there,
I am kind of going to same route you are I need iron infusion. I too am looking for some of the same answers that you are. If you read some of the posts around the Internet there seems to be some reactions. I think we might feel better if we hear from those who have had good results from the infusion. I guess people post bad reactions more so than the good reaction. I will certainly keep up with your post to see what people have to say. Just your a little scared because I certainly am a little scared too. Good Luck and let me know how you do. I haven't been set up yet,for mine.

Re: Iron infusions ordered

Hi there

Don't be afraid. It worked great for me. I was dead tired anyway so I didnt noticed being more tired. Went once a week for 7 weeks and level went from 4 to 85 but now is down below 40 so I might go back for more.

They gave me 2 tylenol first and then pushed a bag of pepcid to protect my stomach. Then the iron took about an hour. I felt fine afterwards and drove myself to every appointment.

Hope you both feel better soon. Chins up =MK
