    Finally an answer to anemia!

I just wante d to share my story quickly in case I could help someone else.

I became anemic in December 2010 and after months of tests, was still not able to find out why. Every time I stopped taking iron, my numbers would trend down and fatigue etc. would hit. The labs reflected iron deficiency but being post menopausal and not bleeding anywhere else, it was very frustrating.

6 months later, enter flank pain. Tests revealed a big old kidney stone. I finally zapped it this past January via lithotripsy. It turns out that the stone was causing enough bleeding to cause anemia but not enough for me to see it in , urine. And I'd only have urine tests once a year which showed no blood at the time so I had no idea.

I have finally stopped taking iron and guess what? I'm fine!

For those of you who have been diagnosed with "idiopathic iron deficient anemia" as I was, this could be another possible cause.

Thanks and good luck to you all!

Actually, the lithotripsy was a breeze. It is just sound waves they send through your back that break up the stone into tiny pieces and then they quietly pass.

The hardest part of it all was all the tests and the not knowing what was causing all the trouble. It's very nice to finally have an answer!
