    Level 6 Ferritin

I have been feeling miserable for months. I was in the hospital for 3 weeks in July due to necrosis of the pancreas. About a month after I started experience leg cramps, headaches, weakness, fatigue and memory loss. The nurse practitioner had me take a blood test which showed low ferritin (8). I was getting worse with my joints also hurting. 3 months after the last lab test I took another test. The Ferritin came in even lower at 6. The nurse called me and told me my labs were normal. Is a level 6 after taking supplements for 3 months after having an 8 normal?

    Re: Level 6 Ferritin

Hi, I would say no! Some Drs miss the Ferritin part. I didnt know mine was low until I went to a Hematologist and I had been anemic for years but none of my Drs checked the ferritin.. I would try to get into a Hematologist. Your Red Blood Cells may be normal but low ferritin means you are unable to store any iron. Thats also when you feel the worst according to my Dr. Good luck, sounds like you need an infusion.
