    Lightbulb Do I have anxiety?

I need to reach out and find out if what I'm going through is actually anxiety or not. This has happened before but went away but yesterday I had a huge overwhelming feeling that I was being weighed down. My vision became blurry, my hands and fingers had a hard time grabbing or holding things. Also my jaw became tight and seemed clenched. The only underlying disease I have is a hypothyroidism and nothing has changed in my every day life. Maybe it's stress that is finally keeping up with me? Any ideas and thank you in advance.

    Hey there Junebugger,

Sorry to hear you've been having a tough time When were your thyroid levels last checked? My best advice would be to speak with your doctor about what has been happening and also get a new screening done if nothing has been recently checked. It doesn't sound quite right to be anxiety to me - but I'm no doctor either

    All the best!
    K.

Hey there, no worries at all

It is certainly concerning what is happening to you! Are you able to get out and see your doctor about it at all? I would absolutely recommend that, as you just can't be too careful with your health.

All the best & it would be great to hear back if you find the root cause of what is happening

I would see a doctor and make sure the symptoms aren't due to a health condition before suspecting anxiety. It could be anxiety, but better safe than sorry.

    Re: Do I have anxiety?

Anxiety can definitely cause all those symptoms. If you rule out any underlying medical conditions or reasons, I would almost guarantee it's anxiety. And in my experience, anxiety can just happen for no reason. Mine just started out of the blue too. If it turns out to be panic/anxiety, my advice is to avoid all the SSRI drugs... lexipro, paxil... they all made my anxiety worse. Low dose Ativan, as needed when I felt an attack coming on worked for me.

    Re: Do I have anxiety?

I've discovered over the years that anxiety attacks can be very different from person to person. My good friend says her peripheral vision actually grays out, particularly if she's in public when it occurs. My mother says her limbs go so heavy and numb, it's like "trying to walk through jello." For me, the worse an attack is, the more I feel faint and disconnected from my body, like I'm about to float right out of it. What you describe sounds as legitimate as any of those experiences.

I recommend talking it over with a doctor - and if possible, perhaps seeing a psychiatric specialist when you do. Many general practitomers (your normal family doctor) just don't fully understand the complexities of mental health problems, or have the time to stay abreast of the many developments in that particular field. If it persists without any physical explanation, don't hesitate to advocate for yourself and get other opinions. I hope you start feeling better quickly!

Sorry I don't have an exact answer for you but I can say that i can relate to this experience. After i had a similar experience like this I talked to my doctor and I was told these were symptoms of having a panic attack. But hope you find a solution!
