    Anxiety Due to Heart Tests

    Hi
I have had anxiety issues in the past. I take Paxil and Ativan as needed.

This week I had an ECG and my Dr said I might have Atrial Flutter. I had to have a complete work up and I'm waiting for the results.

My anxiety has ramped up a lot. Just walking up a few stairs starts my heart thumping. I didn't have this before. My Dr also took me off beta blockers so I think that may be contributing.

Before the original test I never had any feeling of fast heart beats.

Am I just listening too much?

    Don

Don. You are 'listening" too much and your anxiety is getting the best of you.

A smart man once told me dont worry about things you have no control over because you put yourself through it twice...once, you make yourself crazy worrying about the "unknown" and once again if something happens that you DO have to worry about. Even better, if you never have something to worry about, you wasted putting yourself through this twice- for NOTHING!

The gist of it is until you know if there is anything to worry about, dont. You cant do anything about it until you know and once you DO know you'll either learn what you have to do to "fix" it or youll find out there is nothing to do at all!
    Make sense?

I know its easier said than done, but you already know you have anxiety- now is not the time to let it get the best of you. Try really hard to distract yourself for awhile and do whatever the doctor needs you to do to find out what is really happening.

Hang in there. There is a good chance nothing is wrong.

This could be the problem. Taking beta-blockers should not be discontinued all of a sudden. You have to taper off of them. Especially when you took them over a longer period of time. But your doctor should know this if he is a cardiologist.
