    Phlegm in throat

Hi, I have been under a lot of stress for 6 months now... my back and neck hurt and I have a lot of phlegm in my throat which is stuck and makes me have a difficult time when swallowing... I spit it all out but it tends to build up in my throat. My nose is always stuffed as well even when I blow my nose. I have been tested for all STD'S and even HIV and had a throat specialist examine my thraot and nothing( I was with someone on July 2 and got tested on October 10) they all think it is stress... is it really? has anyone felt like this at all? I would appreciate your answers...

    Dear spine oww,
Your may have bile reflux caused by anxiety. Excess bile is released which causes more acids which do not break down the bile. The reflux action of this type is not like heart burn. It comes up and effects the sinus area in your throat which builds up the Phlegm. I have this very bad especially when I wake up. I also spit it up. The pain in your your neck could be the muscle that passes over your neck. Mine gets a knot in it that feels like a big lump. I have had this looked at by three doctors, a surgeon and MRI scan. Nothing but muscle spasm. One medication that might help you for the Phlegm in your throat is: Carafate (Sucralfate generic name). It is a super ant-acid that coats the stomach and weights down the bile so it will flow out through the intestine properly. Also by coating the stomach and intestines it lets ulcers and such heal. Check with you doctor and get his advice. By stopping the acids and weighting the bile, it stops the bile flow from reversing upwards. Just a suggestion if you are looking for something to stop the phlegm. This is one cause of Phlegm. The other would be a sinus problem itself. Just trying to help out. Be good.

    Sincerely,

    Sickman

    Re: Phlegm in throat

Hi there, I have this also. It was diagnosed as a stress, anxiety condition which at first I didnt believe. I suffer from anxiety and have panic attacks. But the throat thing I could have sworn it wasnt stress. Years later I believe it is. I can not seem to clear the throat by spitting but I feel the build up and the difficulity in swallowing.... I agree that it is muscle spasms in the throat combined with a dryness that anxiety brings...!!! My panic attacks have subsided a lot over the last few years but the throat thing hasnt. It even made me give up smoking,so as annoying as this is I have benefited from it. It has been 4 years now . I really believe through stress/anxiety ,even if your not stress at the time the symptoms occour it builds up......Learning to take time out or relax or even think positive are probably the answer for this. Take care and good luck but your not alone for sure....debbiepxx
